What's a stress fracture?!

Question: It's a fracture (not a clean break) of a bone from putting too much weight on it...for example I got stress fractures in my foot during basic training from ruck marching with a 30-35lb rucksack for an extending period of time. I am a female and have never exercised before let alone done anything like that...so it put a lot of "stress" on my feet. I know people with stress fractures in their legs or hips from running(usually overweight people) because they are just not used to putting that much weight and stress on those particular bones.
