How long will it take for the my bowel to get used to not relying on enemas?!
Question: Since 1997 I have been having enemas every 3 times in week. The reason which I had to take enemas is that I have Spina Bifida and Fecal incontinence. Now I have stopped having to rely on them since I had surgery two months ago to Implant an Artificial Anal Sphincter to help control bowel movements and to help me not to soil myself. How long will it take for the my bowel to get used to not relying on enemas?

I would give it a few months. It will be a slow process, not to be rushed into, so take it easy and do not get your hopes up too high, just take it one day at a time. Good Luck
wow, crazy surgery. I dont know, but Im happy for your surgery. I used to work at a camp for ppl w/special needs. There were a lot of ppl who had SB and we had to change a lot of diapers, help out with cathaders...its a lot of work, I cant imagine being in their/your shoes, so to speak. Were you told to eat a fiber rich diet? I know a lot of meds can constipate you, also lack of water will 'dry' you up inside. Water is the best lube for your tube! There are a lot of good veggies out ther that have a lot of fiber and hydration in them.
