My room mate fell on the ice and hurt her wrist?!

Question: Is it better to put ice on it or is is better to put heat on the wrist?

Ice. If she can't move her fingers or make a fist, or if she is having intense pain she should get x-rays.

I would say ice still.

ice so it doesnt swell

Only my guess, ice.

get a hot and cold pack.
put the COLD on for about 15 mins
Then put the HOT on for 15 mins.
Keep switching back and forth.

I say ice.

putting ice will be better!!

Ice to reduce swelling. Your room mate might even want to go to the ER to make sure nothing's broken.

Good luck!

when ihurt my wrist i usally put ice but they both work realy good

use ice. because the cold will dilate the veins and it will bring less blood thus causing less swelling. heat will do the opposite. your roomate need to ice in 15-30 minute intervals or it could have adverse effects.

by the time you read this it could be too late I guess. but you only use heat when it is a cut, inflammation, or infection. but thats another story.

oh and never switch from Ice to Heat cause it WILL cause adverse effects and worsen the pain. that is not a good idea.
trust me on this one, we discussed this is class about a month ago
never heat muscle injuries at first

Use ice. It's a lot better.

Iceand ibuprophen for the first 24 hours and then after that heat (if she wants it)

Ice and ibu reduce the damage and swelling and limit the injury to what it's like right now. Believe it or not just like things still cook after they come out of the oven injuries still injur after the initial accident.

the professional opinion is BOTH.....cold cold cold for 2 or 3 minutes then immediately hot - as hot as can be withstood. Back to cold, then hot again......this promotes blood flow to the injured area. Do you know that it is not broken???
Where did this happen? She may be able to get some compensation - financial compensation - due to negligence. You may want to consult a "slip and fall" lawyer.
