Can I really use superglue to hold the edges of a cut together?!

Question: I have an inch long slice on the bottom of my palm. It's not so deep, but given where it is it keeps pulling open. Somebody told me that the popular job site solution is putting superglue on it. Can I really do that?

YES!!!! It's a temporary fix until you can get to the doctor. What it does is, it blocks the air from getting to the nerve endings therefore stopping the pain. It's not a permanent solution, but you can do it.
A lot of the times, the doctors use a similar product to fix a cut in that certain area, since stitches really aren't appropriate for that area of your body!
Love ya!

(EDIT)... I may not be an EMT or a RN, but I've been in many a bar fights! It works!

Yes you can !!

Yes, you can. However, make sure that the cut is CLEAN and the tube of superglue is a brand new one. Some people do have an allergic reaction to the adhesive, so you need to be sure that you don't react in that way. You could try putting it on intact skin first to see if a rash develops. I would just go to the drug store and buy Johnson & Johnson's Second Skin or a product comparable to that. It is basically the same thing, but it is sterile when you purchase it. This way you are reducing the risks of any bacteria that may be on the superglue tube or the scissors or knife that you use to open the tube.

I certainly wouldn't. Those are pretty harsh chemicals in that stuff. But there is a "liquid bandage" stuff that is specifically designed for that sort of thing. You can get it in a spray can for large areas, like skinned knees, and in a little brush bottle (like nail polish) for small cuts and scratches. It's cool; I use it a lot, because you don't need to worry about getting it wet, the way you do an ordinary bandage.

Eek. You *could* do that but think of the unnatural chemicals that would enter your body. Try closing the wound with a bandaid. Clean it with peroxide, pull the wound tightly closed and use the bandaid to keep it closed.

Warm hugs and a motherly kiss on your boo boo. (((VC)))

Yes, you can. But it will sting like you ain't never been stung before. Your best bet is wash well with an antibiotic soap, rinse with H2O2, use an antibiotic ointment and cover with sterile gauze or bandage. Wash well and use a dry dressing at night, or whenever you go to bed and aren't keyboarding on Y! Answers.

get to an urgent care. keep the wound clean & dry.

To be honest with you I'm an EMT and I have heard of this but I have never seen it done. There is medical glue that they sell at the drug store that is used for this. You can also use butterfly bandages, but being that it is on your palm that is a hard spot, and most likely it will keep popping open. Your best bet as long as it isn't bleeding is to keep it clean and let it heal on it's own. If you work where it is dirty than I would just try to keep it covered while you were working and than when you get home keep it dry and cleaned out and let it get air.

NO WAY!
What you need to do, is thoroughly clean the cut. Then dab on 'Elmers School Glue.' Superglue is way to toxic and strong. Elemrs works fine. Then put a small band-aid over it.
Works great.

You can use super glue It will burn. The medical name for super glue is Durabond. It is just a different color and comes in a different container but it is all the same stuff.
A cut in your hand is very hard to keep closed you might try using butterfly's and the glue as well and still no guarantee that it will stay closed.

LOL.
I had once like that. I band it with bandage and then with plaster and it heals by itself.
I would not suggest you using superglue.

i had surgery on my shoulder, and they used staples to hold it together. staples, dangit. just one more time for emphasis, STAPLES, dangit. auntb93 is correct. super glue has too many toxins in it to use on an open wound that would go directly into your bloodstream. don't want some super glue getting into your heart do you?

yup! works everytime!
