Went to a chiropractor, told me my reason of my mild scoliosis is because of..?!

Question: Im 16 and i went to a chiropractor to get an assesment before they adjust your back. Well after all of that stuff he said i have minor scoliosis and he showed me on the X Ray. I could see the curvuture. He then showed me on the x Ray that my hips were uneven and i saw it. He said this was because one leg is showrter than the other and this is what caused my scoliosis because i have been walking around like this my whole life and it has caused minor scolisosis.

After that he gave me a heelpad that is about half an inch thick to put in my shoe and he said that will help correct the uneven leg lengths.

Is this just to get me to go there for his business gain or do i really have this. And if i do have what he says, if i get rid of the heelpad or not wear it could my scoliosis get worse?

I was given a heelpad when I was 14... but it didnt help... I ended up eventually getting surgery. I dont know if my curve was worse than yours is... but i would suggest going to other doctors for opinions because your spine isnt something to play around with. Good luck

please, please, please see an actual orthopedic doctor! Seeing a chiropractor for scoliosis will only make you worse. The only true way to try and fix scoliosis is to wear a back brace.

Scoliosis isn't caused by one leg being shorter than another, although the two issues can be present at the same time. Your hips being uneven is a symptom of scoliosis.

Your scoliosis could get worse, but I doubt it will be because of the lack of a heel pad. If you haven't finished growing, scoliosis typically gets worse during your growth spurts. Its during this period that, if your curve is in the right range, that a back brace works best. (Braces don't fix the curve. They are used to try to keep the curve from increasing.) If you're done growing and your curve is greater than 30 degrees, its still possible for it to get worse. (Mine did. I was 50-ish degrees when I was out of college and it increased to 60 degrees. I then had surgery.)

I'd suggest seeing your family doctor. They can tell if you have scoliosis. If you do, get a referral to a scoliosis specialist. Any doctor that doesn't have a scoliosis specialty doesn't have the expertise to treat scoliosis.

Chiropractors, message therapists, acupuncturists, etc., can't fix scoliosis. These people adjust the soft, connective tissues and that may (or may not, you can't tell ahead of time) make you feel better, but remember, scoliosis is not a connective tissue disease. Your spine is growing curved.
