Can you train yourself to require less sleep?!

Question: I've always been the kind of person who needs 8 hours of sleep per night, otherwise I will be drowsy all day the next day. But, I'm in law school, and the more I sleep means the less I can study. Is it possible to train myself to be productive on 6-7 hours sleep without getting drowsy all the time?

Absolutely! I've lived on 5 hours a night of sleep (everynight) with a 20 minute power nap on "some" days of my life for the past 30 years (since I became legal drinking age)! My health is great and my capacity to ace all academic tests is phenomenal. Latest research shows that people who suffer "depression" should deprive themselves of sleep, and their conditions improve incredibly and even disappear in some instances. For me to prescribe a course of action with all the details for you would require too much space and time. But here are a few hints: Do your research! 1.Sleep comes in different stages, and the only restful sleep is acquired during that "certain" stage. You can train yourself to get to that stage quickly. 2.Take a good natural multi-vitamin everyday. 3.Early to bed and early to rise!!! You know the rest! 4.Get outside and get exposed to some sunshine - everyday if you can! Hope this helped. Good Luck!

Yes

cut back slowly you will then almost wont need any after i week at 7.5 hours etc

Yeah, be peaceful..and sleep without doing anything..works for me :)...dont go into bed angry either

Why?
Eight hours of sleep seems reasonable if your body needs that much sleep.
Just organize your day so that most nights you can get your required sleep.

Yes
slowly turn your alarm 10 or 5 minutes earlier every day
this worked for me :]

It is possible but better to wait until you are old enough to only need that much sleep! maybe you can study in your dreams!

You could, I'm sure, but in the long run you will just wear yourself out thus you doing poorer on tests and homework due to lack of sleep. Sleep, your body and mind needs it

Yes but you should get 8 hours of sleep.

Yes you can. I only need 5 hours. If I sleep more, I wont get up. But if I get up after 5 hours, I am fine. Its the weirdest thing. But to answer your question again: yes, you can train yourself.

if u require 8 hours sleep like 90% of us, you will function better getting 8 hours of sleep. just the way it is! remember - you canNOT catch up onsleep if you loose it - just get it and manage your time!

I used to be like you but my body has adjusted. I only need about 3 or 4 hours of sleep to function properly now. They way I did it was staying up really late and making myself wake up at a certain time everyday and in about a month or so your good.

8 hours is HEALTHY; you REALLY don't want to get less than that. While you may be able to function on less sleep than that, you will not be quite as mentally alert as you would be if you got more rest.

Yes, Just get very strong, and healthy.

only if ur body gets used to it, but its not healthy and I don't recommend it. You may not feel tired, but your brain and body will be and that can be dangerous.

Trust me, an extra hour or so won't help you study cuz ur brain will be tired even though u may not feel tired.

Stay with 8 hours, u'll have plenty of time to study.

You can train your brain to do almost anything.
I suggest you get atleast 7. 6 is a little dangerous. The less sleep you get the less your brain & body has to recover, which is detrimental to your health. If you go below 7 you'll be drowsy all the time. Try studying while you're doing things you do everyday. Like putting notes on your bathroom mirror or on your breakfast table while you're eating breakfast. LOSING SLEEP ONLY HURTS YOU!

Yes everything is possible but probable is not!

Some people require 8 hours sleep, others can exist on 5 and a half hours - it's just a matter of body/mind/requirements. It is known that the average person sleeps for 8 hours a day but you can exist on less - your just might have to make it up another day.

I work night shift and goto uni so sometimes I can be awake for 30+ hours in one shot. Or else I might go home from work, sleep for 2-3 hours then be off the university. You can get used to it but obviously you can't exist on 2 hours sleep per day and expect to feel healthy and awake all the time.

Honestly - all our bodies are different. Some people need more sleep than others. If I sleep more than 6 hours, I will get lazy and will not get up. If your body requires 8 hours, then you should sleep 8 hours. If anything, you can schedule a nap in the middle of your day - or just sleep earlier to wake up earlier.(8pm to 4am)

yes its possible- first start by only getting 4 hours a night on a weekend for like 3-4 then try 6hours- also ake sure your medication has no sleep meds. in it, but the more sleep you get the more lazy you are during the day, but DO NOT drink mosnters or any enery drink- that makes you really tired- go to c.v.s and possible wal-mart and try 5 hours(its a enery drink without the sugars)

People that meditate every day can apparently live quite happily on less sleep as the deep relaxation recharges them in the same way.

sure u can...all u need just make a change slowly...from 8 hours...to 7.5 hours per week...to 7 hours per week...

it has been proven if you masturbate 8 or more times a day your productivity will be excelerated from your hormones speeding up wich would also speed up your testosterome.

the real answer is no. your body needs what your body needs. you can limit your sleep time as much as you want, but eventually you may experience the ill effects of sleep deprivation, which the many americans (and probably people answering "yes" to your question) do.

Law school? Haha, you should be figuring out a way to cut sleeping out altogether.
