I suffer from insomnia as well. Create a playlist of songs that are relaxing. I use a number of songs from Enya and Loreena McKennitt and listen to them on my mp3 player. If you play it very quietly it should relax you rather than stimulate your brain. You can also get relaxation CDs around the place.

Another trick I was taught was to think of the colours of the rainbow, and then think of everything that is that colour. For example, start with red, and think of everything that you can that is the colour red, such as a fire engine, tomato, etc. Once you can't think of anymore, move on to orange, then repeat. Usually I fall asleep before I get to green.

If you are like me and are often kept awake at night because you can't stop thinking, keep a notepad and pen by your bed so you can write them down and get them out of your head. I would do this when I would think up an essay for school at night, or a story, or song lyrics, or something i need to remember to do the next day.

Also try and block out light. Light does not allow your brain to create the chemicals which cause you to go into REM (rapid eye movement, the deep sleep). You may have non-REM sleep (which is when you dream) but REM is more beneficial.

If all of this fails I pretend I am asleep. Make yourself do everything that you do when you are asleep. Your breathing changes, and this change of breathing will help relax you into sleeping. And because you are focussing on pretending, you aren't thinking about the thoughts and ideas running wild in your head, which keep you awake at night.

Also don't have caffeine after midday, drink a herbal tea such as camomile before bed and exercise in the morning rather than at night. Sleep comes in waves, which can often be 30 mins apart. Get ready for bed early so you can go to bed as soon as you feel the wave of sleep coming over you. If you miss the wave, you'll have to wait for the next one!

Try and stick to a certain time when you go to bed and a time when you get up, every single day of the week. This will help get your body into the routine of sleep. And get as much sleep as possible before midnight, as this is when you have the most beneficial sleep.

Hope this helps, good luck!

It could be a number of things. TOo much caffeine, you could be stressed or worried, you could be depressed.

it might help to shut off the computer

Go see a doctor. He might prescribe you with some sleeping pills & therapy.

not sure, i have a weird sleep patern too, it's hard for me to fall asleep but then i wake up early and no matter how tired i am i can't fall asleep till late

red fury is right sip on something hot

i was the SAME EXACT THING. Youre probably stressed. take it easy on the caffene too.

It's really not normal. But don't worry about it, just wait a little bit longer, maybe you get tired in the next days.....! And otherwise go to s doctor....

drink some hot decaf tea or i have this sleep aid that is all natural , it really works and its not rabbit forming

why dont you go to cvs and get some unisom or something to help your body adjust to sleeping again.
Probably anxiety...your mind isnt letting you sleep. Or maybe you just dont want to sleep

i have the same problem and i just turn on the t.v. until i get tired and than i go back to bed

It might be that you are too stressed or too excited about something, try the old granma's recipe: exercise before bedtime in order to relax your body and get a little tired, drink something warm preferably a grass of milk, don't eat too much before bedtime, make your surroundings confortable too much light could be distracting, or the watch the temperature of the room. Good luck and hope you have a good night!

Stress, anxiety? You need to consult a doctor, sleep deprivation is serious. It can lead to a downward spiral. Don't let it go on much longer...

Tylenol PM. I have a hard time sleeping myself. Usually its because I am stressed, worried and depressed. I use Tylenol PM. It helps. If you still continue you really need to seek professional help.

go to a doctor and asked them if there is something wrong. none of us can tell you really whats going on unless we are a doctor

too much coffee or soda or tea? I drank way too much hot
black tea today and now I am wired for sound...
do you have lots of stress or worried
or too excited too sleep?

do something boring and drink warm milk
if it continues then ask your doc
do try to set a time to sleep for min 6 hours
and relax
my friend takes melatonin over the counter
and it helps her de-stress

Probably stress. Try not to think about anything when you sleep, work out before. Or check with a doctor, you probably have insomnia. Causes can be jet lag, stress, environmental disturbances, and hormonal fluctuations. That's temperamental insomnia. Ask a doctor.

I agree with turning off the computer. Turn off everything electronic - anything that is mentally stimulating you - and give yourself some time to relax. Close all the blinds and curtains, set an alarm for work, and don't get up until morning - even if you think you can't sleep.

What is keeping you from sleeping? Are you worrying about things? Taking in too much caffeine? sugar? Not getting enough exercise? There are a lot of factors that can keep you from sleeping... you should check them all. Here are a few things that have helped me fall asleep from time to time:
1 have a LIGHT snack, so that hunger is not keeping you awake
2 take a nice hot bubble bath
3 read a book
4 watch a movie - not an action thriller!!
5 get in the most comfortable position you can find, then slowly relax each part of your body, starting with the toes, keeping each part you've already relaxed relaxed while you relax each new part...
6 make sure you don't have any bright lights or loud music in the room where you are trying to sleep...
7 a cup of hot chocolate might help
Good luck... you really do need some sleep

Sleep - is rest required to your body & mind.
stress can be the factor which affect your sleeping pattern.
there can be to many things to tell you, but the end result is peace of mind. that s what you should be looking for

You did not tell your age. But then,if you are still young, you are either in love with a lady, too much worry, or you have Insomnia. A friend or a doctor can help you aside from parents.

Nick I have the same problem and have as long as I
can remember ever since a young child so it might
not be too much caffeine. You may suffer from something
called insomnia (inability to sleep) I am an insomniac (one with insomnia) myself. There are herbal teas
but I am not sure how well the work ask about them at your grocer or nutrition store. The teas should indicate
that they aid sleep on the box and remember it isn't
maybe your doctor could help I don't know.
want to talk? amollon2000@yahoo.ca
regular tea (which has caffeine) I would not suggest sleeping pills cause than you get dependent and need
other pills to stay awake during the day it's a vicious circle
