Strange Sleep Problems...?!

Question: Okay, so here is the deal. I've always had some kind of sleep problems, usually it has been me not being able to fall asleep at night. I'd gone to the doctor once for it and he gave me some sleeping pills but they didnt seem to help so I bought some from target and they didn't really help either. Then it got better for awhile but now lately it is back again!

Anyways, this time it is different...it's like I'm in a weird state where I feel half asleep and half awake. I am still thinking and stuff like I normally do while I'm lying there but time goes by really fast like I'm asleep. Last night I layed down at midnight and slowly time went by I kept checking the clock and what was an hour seemed like only a few minutes. I know this probably sounds crazy but am I in a semi-sleep semi-awake state or what? I'm not actually fully asleep or anything, I still know whats going on around me and stuff. Anybody heard or experienced anything like this before? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

This sleep problem seems to me to be something is going on in your life that you can not let go when it is time to go to sleep. What do you do just before bed? The best way to get to sleep is to ease into bed time. If you play games or watch TV just before going to bed you simulate the brain and it takes a longer time to get to a sleep state. Try ending these activity's about an hour before going to bed, read a light book or just be in a quite state, before going to your bed.
When you do get to bed the brain should be more relaxed and you should be able to drift off into a state of sleep easier.

i get this ALOT especially when im having particular trouble sleeping!erm the best thing ive found when getting to sleep is making it as pleasant as poss...nice clean soft sheets, comfy bed, watch a comedy and go to bed in a good mood!go to bed at a sensible hour and dont WORRY about not getting sleep! if you have a sleepless nite it doesnt matter!just put the tv on if it helps and fall asleep with it on or listen to some music! hope this helps please dont use pills

I've been where you are and I'll tell you what I did. No coffee or alcohol anytime. Walk 1-2 miles every day. Nothing with sugar in it after 6 PM. I took Restoril for over a year (30mg) and became dependent on it, but, I cut the dosage in half several months ago and went on the regimine above. I no longer take the pills and the sleep is much better. Good luck
