My brother is trying to quit smoking, any advice?!


Question: He has gone about 30 hours without a cigarette. He is using a nicotene patch and gum. It is most difficult for him in the morning and after dinner which is when he always had a cigarette.

If you can. Take a week off work. Lock yourself in your house with cleaning supplies. When the urge strikes. Sleep! While you are in withdrawals you will be always tired.

Get something to combat the oral fixation (don't laugh) it's true. Carrot sticks work GREAT.
Don't bother with the patch or gum. You need to get over the nicotine and the habit.

#1 thing you can do is support him.

I don't smoke since birth. People should understand that smoking is hazardous to your health.

I went to my doctor and took Wellbutrin and Xanax for 10 days and had smoked for 25 years, and it was my first time to try and quit and I have never craved one since. I smoked a little over a pack a day. I have now been smoke free for almost 2 years...2 years February 21st. Tell him if he doesn't quit this time, not to give up. He is on the right track. Go see your doctor...they really do have the right meds that help. Also, Jolly Ranchers...lol.
