It's an accupressure point called 'Tian Tu' (Conception Vessel 22).

There's another point for hiccups on the back just below the shoulder blades, in the furrows on either side of the spine, right about where a woman's bra-strap lies.

How it works is hard to explain, because the Chinese view medicine VERY differently than we do here in the West. They see the body as having 14 different 'channels' thru which the body's energy flows (picture in your mind the wiring in a house) A blockage in one of these channels causes dysfunction in the body (like a broken wire causes a lamp to go out).

Stimulating the point by applying pressure opens up the blockage in the channel and relieves the dysfunction. It's like putting the broken wire back into place; the 'circuit' is complete and the lamp goes back on.....

(Yeah, well, ya' HAD ta' ask, din'cha?!?)

It's a mental thing I bet. You believe it works, so it works.

i dont know but all i do is hold my breath!

water works...not
i dunnnnno

If you slam the lid on the ole family jewels..it will cure your hiccups.

what i do is i take a spoon of sugar or honey stick it in the back of my toungue and press. and then swallow what was in the spoon.

GL!

Well you get a spoon full of sugar and swallow it. It always helps for me.

Pinch your nose and take about 5 gulps from a glass of water.
Breathing gets out of sink from your heartbeat.

I just hold my breath and it works

take a breath and hold for 10 seconds (read off clock) and then let it go and hold for another 10-voila

I think you just lean backwards on a chair, drink water while your leaning, and then, that should work.

don't do that...it could be dangerous...but i don't know anything abuot that, so yeah...???
but one way to do it is have someone tell you to hiccup...

your clavicles are on yours houlders

try breathing deep, slow breaths, then hold your breath and start over, this should work, but you have to concentrate and be calm.

the best thing to do is take 7 sips of water :p 100% works!, and the thing your father would tell you do would stop air from just going down your throat not forcing it back up

the pressure explodes the bubble of gas

bubble of gas=hiccup

peanut butter and a spoon!

take a glass of water, breath in, then drink continuously without stopping to breath for as long as you can. IT REALLY WORKS

i dont know. but i know that another way hiccups can be cured is when you hold your breath and try to swallow your slavia 3 times with your mouth closed

drink lots of water

1- Drink from wrong side of glass
2- Look at self in mirror (dunno why but it works)
3- Hold ya Breath
4- Get scared
5- Burp
and or do homework --> tested by me

now theres a good way mrth. that'll definately work. I've herd that drinking water, and getting scared will work also

im not sure what your father means but i do something different.
sit up straight, take a deep breath and hold it. it usually goes away in less than 10 seconds. it always works for me

what u do it...u get up the person's face and ask him constant, embarassing questions then he will focus on that question so much that he'll forget about the hiccups

idk how, but its always worked for me/ppl around me
only,,,,u cant do it to urself

pickle juice does it for me, drink a small glass and fast

I don't know. But MY solution has NEVER failed. I have used it when I was little, and now I use it with my kids. It is so simple. You just hang upside-down (like lay on your bed and have your top half hang over) and drink water. Just a few gulps will do the trick. I give my kids sippy cups. WORKS AWESOME!!

Treatment
Most cases of hiccups go away on their own, without medical treatment. If an underlying medical condition is causing your hiccups, treatment of that illness may eliminate the hiccups. If your hiccups are persistent or intractable, your doctor may recommend the following treatment:

Medication. Several forms of medication may be effective for treating hiccups. The most commonly used is chlorpromazine (Thorazine). Other medications that may be helpful include metoclopramide (Reglan), anticonvulsants, benzodiazepines and baclofen (Lioresal).
Carotid sinus massage. Your carotid sinus is located in your neck, just below your jaw and just above the point where your carotid artery
