Cramped muscles?!

Question: I came late to soccer practice yesterday and I didn't warm up. Stupid choice, I know. So I went straight into pracice and about 45 minutes in, after making a pass my calves totally shut down. It felt like a spasm at first, but it just froze. Now my calves are really sore and it's a pain to walk. Anyone know how to treat this?

Ow! Take a hot bath. Soak for a while and let your muscles relax. Take a day or two off from exercise and just do some long stretching instead. A tylenol or aspirin should help too. Also, some of the muscle relief creams, like aspercreme or bengay. I use a natural gel called Arnica gel that you can get at your heath food store or somewhere like GNC. But you really need to let them rest for a couple of days even if the pain is relieved from these methods.

sounds like you may have strained the muscle. A couple of icy hot patches and some light stretching ought to do the trick.
