Knee Pain (i`m 14).?!

Question: Okay, I'm 14 and very active I play lacrosse and basketball. My knees crack (when I bend down, pretty loudly too!). For the past month my knee has been on and off hurting, but now for the past week its gotten worse.
When I bend it a certain way, walk or walk up the stairs, or stretch my leg out its hurts and theirs a shrap pain. I haven't fallen on it or anything.
What is the cause of this knee pain?
Should I go see a doctor?

thankss(:

It sounds as if you have torn cartiledge in your knee ... see an orthopedic surgeon for an exam and MRI (special x-ray) to see if the menisci are damaged ... Usual treatment for a torn mensicus is arthroscopic surgery. Recover is rather quick, i.e. 2 weeks ..

I had knee pain similar to what you're describing when I started running track. When I went and saw a doctor they said that it was because the muscles in my thigh weren't strong enough yet and weren't holding my knee cap in place like they should.

If your school has a physical therapist (mine did) go and talk to them and they should have some exercises for you to do. You should talk to a professional, anyway. Pain is no fun!

It's possible that you just wrenched your knee, so take a couple of Advil about four times a day for a few days and see if that doesn't relieve the pain and inflammation. Also, put hot packs on your knee. If the pain doesn't go away in a week, and give it some rest, have your doc check it out in case you injured it badly or possibly have juvenile arthritis.

well the cracking noise is a sign of a problem while unusual for someone your age it is not unheard of. i have knee trouble to and i was told i have arthritis in both knees. in your case i am going to say that you have probably injured your knee playing sports. you may not know you have injured but some how you did weather you jumped to make a shot in basketball and landed the wrong way or you got hit in the knee by a lacrosse stick. get to the doc and have it checked out before it gets any worse
