My hip is really really hurting me what should I do?!

Question: I lifted some light weights this morning, and then a few hours later I started feeling some hip pain. It has gotten worse since then and I can barely stand up it hurts so much whenever I move I cry out in pain. I am 23 year old male. I tried a heat pad but it only made it temporarily better and now it's worse. I also tried Icy hot but again it just dulled the pain didn't make it better. I have had hip pains before but never this bad I can't even move from sitting down w/o being in terrible pain. Does anyone know what I can do to make it better?

what kind of weights? bench press? doing curls standing up? the reason i ask is because depending on what you're doing, i think it could have been either nerve related or soft tissue swelling. also, i kinda have to know exactly where you're pain is and if its radicular (radiates down your leg). if it's more in the back, we have to question your low back (spine), and if its in the front, we question a labral tear. if anything, the general rule for joints are ice it as much as possible (do not use heat), NSAIDs (ibuprofen, motrin, aleve, etc), and let it calm down by not doing too much for a short term, just so that soft tissue structures can heal. if it's mechanical, meaning that if some structure is damaged, torn, compressed, it may need other work-up/tests. there's a lot of different ways to treat what you're describing, and to get the ideal treatment, you need to get it checked out by an orthopaedic/sports medicine doc. they'll get to know you're history first, and then give you an exam, xrays if needed, and tests (mri, IA injection by means of diagnosing, etc). i know this wasn't much help, need more info

Are you taking any prescribed medications? If you happen to be taking any 'statins' - this could explain your pain.

WHEN YOU SAY HIP PAIN EXACTLY WHERE DOES IT HURT I NEED TO KNOW THE EXACT LOCATION MANY PEOPLE CONFUSE HIP PAIN WITH LOWER BACK PAIN? i CAN HELP BUT I HAVE A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS.

You can try electric therapy,I'm an electric therapist here in the Philippines this kind of alternative therapy will stop the pain you are encountering but the problem is I'm too far away from your country if you are interested in trying this method of therapy you can email me at cecilio624@yahoo.com
