What do you tell doctors when you need stronger pain meds without sounding like !

Question: I'm currentl on Vicoprofen 7.5 for a severe herniated disc in my back and I had to FIGHT just to get those, but honestly, they don't even touch the pain. They were reluctant to even give me those because of my age (I'm 27.)

Also, if you gotta be in A LOT of pain to get the strong stuff, then how can people afford to sell their percocets and oxycontin and stuff like that???

To me, it just doesn't make sense!

Hun..there are those who are either excellent in faking, or suffer to care for their family during a time unable to work!! Seemingly, desperate times bring about desperate measures!! Terrible saddening!! You do need to explain to your physician your dilemma, and if he refuses to help you himself, ask for a referral to a pain treatment center so that someone CAN~~ he should be terribly ashamed!! You have a valid need!! WOW!!! Please keep trying as chronic pain can lead to horrible things~~Such as suicide from hopelessness!!
My VERY BEST to YOU...

tell him or her the pain meds are not doing what they are designed to do as the pain is stronger than expected

I agree with him. Doctor's will give the lowest pain meds possible at first, if you don't complain they assume the meds are working. If you say it isn't working they will go with something a little stronger, Every person has a different pain tolerance. So don't be shy.

The best thing is just be honest with your doctor- just tell him that what was prescribed isn't helping. You have a valid reason for needing it and shouldn't feel bad when telling the doctor isn't working. I hate the fact that because all of the abuse with this type of medication that it's almost impossible for valid people with valid issues to get any pain releif.
Good luck.

I totally understand how you are feeling. Call the doctors and get an appointment. Talk to him and tell him just how badly things are going right now. If he is not willing to help you, ask to be referred to a pain specialist. They might be able to help you. Just keep going for what you need. If the doctor won't help, find another. I have NO idea why anyone would want to sell the medications they need. It makes NO sense to me either.
I do know that, only you can tell what your pain level is, just come right out and ask for a stronger medication. If he wants to monitor it, he can write it on the prescription, to be taken as directed and then, give you just enough to last until you see him again...it can be done.
