Could I have broken my ankle?!

Question: I hurt my ankle badly 2 weeks ago and 1 week ago I went to see a podiatrist To explain the incident, I was riding my bike and I stopped and something bumped into me and my foot+ ankle got stuck in a really painful position. I fell to the ground crying in pain and I cried for 2 hours. This happened 2 weeks ago. It still hurts now when I try to walk and when I walk I cry. I have been using the crutches today. It even hurts with the brace on. I dont know if I really trust my podiatrist, I was thinking of asking my mom to see an orthropedist. The pain is severe and I cant move it. It has actually gotten kinda worse. I also hurt my heel and most of my foot in addition to my ankle.

Do you think it might be broken?
Plz dont drag on and on and then not end up telling me if I broke it or not.

Here is a trick. Find something in your house that vibrates. Hold that object gently against the bone which you think may be broken. Try the 2 bumps on either side of your ankle first. The vibration on a broken bone will be horrible. If it doesnt hurt than you aren't dealing with a broken bone.

And an honorable mention to Jordan Marie. Thank to you both (elephantlashes and Jordan Marie) I will add you both to my contacts! Report It

  • well i broke the same ankle 3 times and it really does sound like is ia broken............what is really bad is that now that i broke me ankle already you are prone to more ankle injures.(especcially sprains my ankle has been purple and swollen for like 2 months! and all the docter says is rice
    Rest
    Ice
    Compress
    Elevate

    hope u feel better

even a bad podiatrist still had to pass medical school, so they would probably know a broken ankle if they saw one.

what might be the case is something internally could have shifted and pinched a nerve, so i would go to an orthopedist if you are in that much pain.

to answer your question, i do not think you have broken your ankle, but i think if your in that much pain, something isn't right.

To say broke or not is pretty hard without more information. You did the right thing to go to the doctor. I'm assuming your podiatrist didn't give you a definite answer. Seeing an orthopedic doctor wouldn't be a bad idea...especially if you are crying daily, the pain is severe, you can't move it, and you feel like it is getting worse. A sign of a break is a sharp pain when pressure is applied to the area for example weight baring. There are specific tests for this that would be lengthy to describe and wouldn't necessarily be safe if you don't know what you are doing. You could make the problem worse. You would be better off letting the orthopedic doctor do them. I'm wondering if the doctor suggested you to do RICE? Rest Ice Compress and Elevate along with that brace. If you have a large amount of swelling and bruising this could be the problem not necessarily a brake. Until you see the doctor do RICE with your brace and see if it gets better or at least tolerable. Swelling sitting in the foot, toes or ankle can be very uncomfortable! Make sure you elevate throughout the day even if you are in school!
