How can I alleviate stomach pain from pancreatitis?!

Question: My doctor just told me I might have acute pancreatitis. I'm going for an MRI on Tuesday but I'm in pain now. Is there anything I can do in the mean-time? He didn't give me any pain medication for when it starts hurting but it's becoming unbearable.

I know some people are going to say "go to the doctor" but I've already been. I want suggestions that will help until I can go back.

If your doctor didn't give any advice, try ibuprophen at about 600mg or so (3 pills from most bottles). That may help... try to position yourself in a comfortable position and try to avoid moving your trunk around much...

If you really have acute pancreatitis like your doctor said, then that's really bad. Acute generally means "severe" in medical speak which could be life threatening.

yes try Advil (ibuprofen) you can take up to 4 pills though 800mg, that's the maximum dose given as prescription every 4-6 hours. Pancreatitis is one of the most painful diseases! Except maybe cancer, I'm surprised the doctor didn't give you anything.!

You don't have to go to the doctor to get relief from this. Call the doctor tomorrow and tell the nurse that you have already seen your doctor and you are scheduled for an MRI for what he/she thinks is pancreatitis and that your symptoms are getting worse and if there is anything he can phone in or suggest to ease the symptoms until then. They should do that for you with no problem.

I am really surprised if he thinks that you have pancreatitis why he is waiting til Tuesday to do an MRI.. the treatment for this is no food and iv fluids and pain medication.. I would get a second opinion if I were you.
