I Need Help! ASAP! 10 points for best answer!!?!

Question: During a soccer game, I was running down the field with the ball. Suddenly, a defender is right in front of me. The defender stops the ball. My leg locks and I move on. It basically twisted. I didn't feel much pain at the time. It went numb for the rest of the night. I felt TONS of pain the morning on the outside/middle of my knee. I limped around the day. Came home had a horrible pain worse than even before. And it then again went numb. I went to soccer practice (bad choice) and I kept sliding because I felt as if my knee was going to give out. It also hurt. REALLY bad. After that it went numb again. Now I woke up this morning at 5 AM from horrible pain and was crying. I never cry and I was crying. Broke my forearm without crying. It went semi-numb for awhile also. I'm still limping. My knee moves side to side and up and down easily. It feels better when I hold it up. Any ideas on the problem? Whats the numbness from?

the operating room RN above should known better, THE MENISCUS IS AVASCULAR (NO BLOOD SUPPLY). that's why you're in the operating room and not in clinic or assisting in the surgery.

at this point, save the nature of the injury explanation for your ortho doc. stay off of it. get some crutches to get around in. touch-toe weight bear as needed (like when you go pee). keep it elevated whenever you get a chance to minimize swelling, ice it 20 mins on, 20 min off. no heat: it sends blood that way, causing more fluid build up, more swelling. the only time you ice/heat at the same time is when you dont see the doctor sooner. since you're seeing them monday, it wouldn't be wise to start now. but why you would heat is because sending blood that way will help promote healing of soft tissue damage that carry blood supply. but for your sake, stick to icing. you dont need to fully immobilize your knee. because you're in pain and your swollen, you cant bend it that much anyway, but it wont hurt your condition if you can still bend it somewhat. stick with the recommended dosage of anti-inflammatories (ibuprofen, motrin, aleve), that will help. basically, lay around tomorrow until you get it checked monday (bring shorts with you to change in to, or wear some under your sweatpants). numbness you're getting is from the swelling. the fluid build up from your injury is what's compressing on the nerve. keep with the elevation, ibuprofen, ice, and it'll feel better. on monday, he'll do some tests (google this if you want, but don't try it!) called lachman's, anterior drawer, among others. he'll get xrays if warranted (we're not worried about bone structures, just the spaces and alignment in your knee). he'll also give you a brace with hinges on the side. you do NOT have to be immobilized in full extension. you can still bend your knee as tolerated in the brace (hopefully they have that kind). this will protect it from derotating or collapsing valgusly or varusly, while maintain some range of motion so you dont get stiff. he'll then set you up for an MRI, which will confirm soft tissue damage. and once he gets the report, he'll follow up with you (either by phone or follow-up appointment) and talk options and where to go from there.

my impression with this kind of injury, i'm thinking the ACL, MCL and possible meniscus are involved. mcl usually gets taken care of by itself by secondary intention, while the acl and meniscus needs surgery.

good luck and i hope the mri wont show anything remarkable. if you do need surgery, you'll do well because you're an athletic person, and if you have good quad tones (and muscle tone in the leg), you'll rehab better.

addendum: you do NOT need any casting for this injury. PERIOD! if anyone mentions casting, just scroll right through it.

go to the doctor(duhh...)

best thing i could tell you is some sort of fluid build up(never too good) and you should go to the e.r asap.

You might of broken your knee or tore a ligament in your knee. and the numbness might of been because your nerve ending was being pinched
and that hurts
You shouldn't have gone to soccer practise
you need to relax
dont do anything that hurts
get some crutches
to reduce swelling use
RICE
R- Rest
I- Ice
C- Compress
E- Elevate

well a twisting injury to the knee can cause several types of injuries. the most common are a meniscal tear and an acl tear. if it started swelling right away that would indicate a meniscal tear since the meciscus is very vascualar. if the knee feels like it keeps "giving out" then you could have torn your acl. i would go get it checked out by a doctor. he may have an mri done to see what kind of damage has been done. ice and elevation will help to ease the pain for now.

I hate to tell you this but you need an MRI. There could be nerve damage. It sounds as though you hyperextended your knee if I'm reading this properly. The knee is a pretty complicated joint - there are structures beneath and attached to the patella (kneecap) that can be injured easily in sports.

Wiki has some good info on this for you, I selected the ACL because it has a lot of good images.

this could be a series of problems you could have poped your kneecap out of socket or sprained it bad or broken it I know what its like to be confused by being in so much pain when its not normal for you so the best advise you will get is to see a doctor at the ER and get it xrayed and they will give you meds for the pain and if its broken well you know the drill! it may also be a contusion a bruise within the muscle tisue it will cause alot of swelling and sometimes bruising but not as often as one would think...

torn ACL. Go to the doctor now. hope it gets better.

duudddddddddddddddeeeee
go to ur parents or a doctor
dont ask random ppl online

moron

definitely go to the doctor and get it checked out. it;s unusual to not feel any pain when it happens then have it become numb sometimes. based on your explanation i would say you damanged something or maybe tore your ACL. i think it;s ACL because your knee slides around easily. during a soccer practice when my coach thought i tore my ACL he did this test where i layed on my back on the group (like i was doing situps) and he pulled my leg, fortunately it didn;t move but he said that that is the ACL check if it moves around. I am not positive but definitely see a doctor there is no point in ruining your soccer carreer.

it could be sore

idk im not a doctor

It is probably a sprain
you should get a cast because: (these are just based on what i have learned in our health class)
first of all if you have a sprain, you need to maintain the L position of your foot to avoid furthermore damage,
also you need to put a cast so that it will lessen the pain(but make sure to wrap it correctly, remember L shape)
apply hot compress.. hot not cold or else it might get worse
and if you still have troubles walking bring a cane along with you so that you wont put too much force on the sprained ankle(don't mind bullies if they laugh at you and call you names)
so as summary, you should get a cast
