How do you cure shin splints?!

Question: I have had shin splints for about 3 and a half years... I am in competitive gymnastics and practice 4 times a week. My shins hurt once in a while for the first 2 years but now they hurt so bad it sometimes hurts (in a throbing pain style) just when I am sitting on the couch or walking around! I really can't stop practice but they just hurt soooooooooo bad... I don't know what to do. I ice them periodically... and I have ace braces but they don't seem to help. Can you tell me how to fix them but not stop practicing? Thanks.

it happens when your calves are too developed for your shins. I have the same exact problem. You can strengthen your shins tapping your foot. You know, tapping the ball of your foot on the found while keeping your heel on the ground. I know it sounds ridiculous, but after you do it for a while, you can fell your shin aching. This is because it is becoming stronger. I did this nd my shin splints stopped completely. But, in the meanwhile, ice the heck out of your shins. This should also help.

I am truly confused that your gymnastics coach has not spoken with you about the shin splints. I can commend you on your determination. I will give you an example. My daughter was in the navy and if you are not aware, I can honestly tell you that they have to have significant prove that one is not trying to get out of the rigorous exercises. The running continuously and push ups, and other completions against others. Finally after going to the naval hospital, they sent her to a civilian hospital. At first, she was walking on crutches and then in a wheel chair to keep off her legs to recover. I would advise you to see a specialist. Take their advice, if you are not satisfied, see another one. I release that gymnastics demands constant practice. As I am not a doctor, I would really advise medical attention other than the first aid that you are doing. Constant pressure and straining is going to cause even more serious than you are experiencing now. It is a very difficult decision for you to make. I do hope that your problem improves. Please at least get professional advice, then make your decision.
