When can I start to workout after emergency abdominal surgery?!

Question: Around December 12, 2007 I had an accident where I ran through a sliding glass door. A piece of glass had punctured my abdomen via my upper leg into the peritoneal cavity but no organs were damaged. I had massive blood loss and therefore had an autotransfusion of about 400mL of my blood but was severely anaemic for about a month but have since recovered through prescription iron supplements. I'm young (22) and so hence why I feel like I am recovered fully. My question is since it has been almost 6 weeks and I feel back to normal would it be ok with me starting up a workout regime? I can't check with my surgeon because the accident happened when I was out of the country in Chile, which makes contact incredibly difficult. Thanks for any valuable input!

Do you have a local doctor of your own to consult? You should see a doctor anyway here to do a follow up and make sure everything is ok, healed properly and can advise you of what you can and cannot do. Abdominal surgery, depending on the severity, can sometimes (not always) take up to 3 months to completely heal (we have many layers of skin and tissues), even though you may feel ok. Even if nurses or doctors answer your question here on Yahoo, they cant see your records and know exactly what the doctor did. My answer is to see your doctor or find one asap. You will get your answers and put your mind at ease. Additionally, based on personal experience, I would not recommend working out just yet as deep internal skin and tissue may not be completely healed yet. Good luck to you :)

Normally its six weeks, but still no heavy lifting. Maybe some running, or areobics, but no heavy lifting. Most importantly you should consult your primary doctor, or if they gave you a doctor to see after you were discharged from the hospital.

This is not the best place to get such answers! We can't diagnose, or advise you correctly on what is possibly dangerous to you. I would advise seeing a doctor and getting a checkup, and let the doctor advise you after seeing how well you've healed.
