your body expels 'toxins and impurities" during the night .(night is when your body heals itself).and the morning is a time when we're most sensitive so as long as the pain goes away, it sounds like its just harmless and normal. I take liquid chlorphyll, not only does it clear any sore throats, but it takes away morning breath as well.

Maybe it's dry?
I have no idea, but it happens to me sometimes, and drinking a little water seems to help a bit.

the most common cause of the symptoms you describe (in an otherwise healthy person) is night-time mouth breathing. this is often a result of nasal passage problems (allergies, deviated septum) and sometimes accompanied by a post-nassal drip. other times mouth breathing is just a habit.
have an Ear-Nose-Throat/ Allergist specialist check you.
good luck!

You may be snoring, even lightly. You might want to check with your doctor about the possibility of having a sleeping disorder. Your regular doc may be able to tell simply by looking at the back of your throat to see if the throat tissue is likely causing you problems. Or, depending on how your insurance works, you may want to go directly to a sleep doc or pulmonary doctor. They will know the signs of a sleeping disorder better than your primary doc.

You can take a quiz online to see if you have any of the other symptoms of a sleeping disorder.

If you think you may have a sleep disorder, get it seen about right away. People often think they are no big problem, but really, they put a strain on your heart and effect all sorts of other things. Clearing up this one issue can eliminate a whole host of other problems.

phlegm... hehehe...
drink a lot of fluid before going to bed.

It is caused by open mouth breathing. It happens to just about everyone and it is not a big issue. Just keep drinking lots of fluids (WATER) and you will be fine.
