Whats the difference between a fracture and a break, when it comes to bones?!

Answers: I always thought that they similar but a fracture is more of a crack in the bone rather than a full on break.

same thing

There is no difference. Fracture is a medical term and break is a lay-term.

fracture = break. Doctor's terminology vs. layman terminology. There are different types of fractures, like open (where bone pops through the skin), comminuted, spiral, greenstick, etc., but generally speaking, if it's fractured, it's broke.

Fracture is the medical term, break is the lay term.

Actually they are the same ... the difference is in the severity, i.e. displaced or nondisplaced ... displaced usually requires manipulation to restore alignment and nondisplaced does not ...

you are right in your thinking, break/fracture are the same the only thing different is a compound fracture, it's when the bone breaks through the skin and you can see it ouch!

A break is a fracture but a fracture is not always a break. A cracked bone is fractured but if the bone is cracked all the way through so that there are two (or more) separate pieces, then that is a "break".
It's like all cognac is brandy, but not all brandy is cognac.

The medical term for a "broken bone" is a Fracture! Don't listen to some of these answers, they are not accurate. All fractures are breaks, and all breaks are fractures. There are hairline fractures, also called stress fractures, there are complete fracture, transverse fractures, and compound fractures. Again, all of these are fractures, and all are broken bones, to different degrees.

defo no diff both hurt madly
