One of my fingers' knuckle has recently stopped bending normally. What could!

Question: When i close the fist of that hand and then straighten the fingers back, the finger in question stays closed: i have to 'free' it if you like, help it spring back. when it first happened (and it was suddenly) 2 - 4 months ago it was uncomfortable but has been becoming more and more painful. In other words it is not becoming any better.
My mum and her aunt have the same problem.

when that happened to me, It turned out to be a trigger finger. After surgery, my other hand did the same thing, only no surgery on it, and it finally worker it self out, massage the joint daily where it hurts the most.

Sounds like arthritis.

Whatever you hear on this site is good advice. But that is all it is - advice. Doctors know best and they will be able to help you more than anybody else. Sound like what my friend had but hers got worse and had to wear a splint but cant now straighten her finger.

Doctors!

Sounds like "Stenosing Tenosynovitis) aka Trigger finger. We usually treat this complaint by performing minor surgery to release the tendon ... called an A1 pulley release. It is an outpatient procedure and can be done under local anesthesia
