Cauda Equina is a syndrome! That means the symptoms, loss of bladder and bowel function let alone leg function, paralysis almost instant paralysis! Therefore it is a emergency surgery to remove the disc or disc fragments, in 'hope' to regain the full use of bladder, bowel and legs! Sciatica is where one nerve is being impinged on, could be by a muscle, could be by a disc bulge, could be due to the narrowing of a hole in the bone where the nerves pass through. I am at risk of Cauda Equina as I have a prolapsed disc, so the disc has split all the way around and is pressing on the nerve roots. Should I loose the bowel, bladder function emergency surgery.
