Can you throw away your cigerettes?!

Question: Seems like some people cannot! I know my monm and dad both smoked. My mom died at 42, and my dad quit a 73 years old and has not smoked(he is now 79) Watching Oprah, it said one lady smoked for 20 years and had spent over $22,000 on cigerettes!! Really hard to understand huh?

It's really hard to understand if you're NOT addicted to cigarettes or inclined to smoke.

I'm 44. The generation before mine didn't think anything of the dangers of smoking. Most of them are dead now. Many from smoking and many from natural causes.

I smoke cigarettes. My generation really didn't believe all the hype about how bad smoking was for us.
Trouble is-by the time we realized they were right-we were good and hooked.
It's been proven that nicotine addiction is more than likely harder to kick than a heroin addiction. I dunno-I've never done heroin, but I get the idea.
The smoking cessation aids out there are very expensive-(I know-you're gonna say "But so are cigarettes!)-Yeah, but it's a heckuva lot harder to pay $100.00 a pop for Chantix after insurance or $44.00 a box for the nicotine gum than it is for a deck of smokes. That's how tobacco gets ya and keeps ya.

I've tried to quit several times and it sure ain't easy. I'll keep trying and maybe one day I'll succeed. Then again, cancer cures smoking.....

You're already ahead of the game by not wanting anything to do with smoking by the sound of it. Good. Hope ya stay that way. :)

I don't smoke.
When I was a kid my friend and I would get her dad's ash tray, take it upstairs and smoke the butts.
Then we were in another friends horse barn smoking once.
All I ever did was choke and cough. I could never figure out how someone could get addicted to it. When it was so uncomfortable.

addiction makes you do crazy things. rationally, i know that i am wasting my health and money. my craving for nicotene is a beast. i don't think anyone who hasn't experienced real, physical addiction can understand. i'm very happy that cigarettes are less acceptable socially and harder for children to get than they were when i started. it's a terrible addiction, and i hope i can overcome it.

My dad was able to quit without taking any drugs. You just need really strong self-control.

I am so glad that your parents quit smoking. But very sad that your Mom died at such an early age. It is a nasty habit and causes all kinds of health issues. No I don't smoke
and neither does my hubby or any of our kids or grandkids.
That I am so thankful for. You know, if people decided not to smoke but saved what they would spend on cigarettes, what a lot of money saved!! Yes, it is so hard to understand. Good question by the way. Thanks!

Not really. Nicotine is the most addictive drug there is. More so than heroin and cocaine.

People who smoke are junkies. I know, I smoked for 39 years until I quit 3 years ago.

Some people can stop cold turkey and others can't.
I have social smoked for years and years and decided over Christmas that I was going to stop - I feel wicked az from doing it too - it is really empowering to do by yourself. However, some people can't by themselves and need help as it is an addiction. Good on you people that haven't smoked before, however, don't judge others that do - it is their choice.

I read in an survey note that 1 cigarette reduces 5 seconds of ur life.. do one thing just make this a big note and paste it in ur room and u will automatically stop smoking.. it wokred with my brother..

I did in 1991 and never looked back

I can throw them away but what's the point I'm only going to end up getting some more;

I dont smoke!! i hate it!! ...my mum and dad both smoke since they wer at school!! Recently my grandada died of lung cancer-he smoked too for all his life! ..my dad tried to quit he gave up new years even and lasted like 2-3weeks...hes back smoking again!!

i did!! i feel so much better and no more asthma!! happy day:)
