Is it broken? [finger]?!

Question: I don't know if it's broken [middle finger]... but I was playing basketball, and I jammed it while I was trying to block the ball. It was extremely painful. I've jammed my fingers before, but after a couple minutes, the pain went away. The pain isn't going away. It isn't black and blue, and I can't bend it, or move it at all [without alot of pain]. It's also swollen. Going to the doctor is the obvious answer.. But, It's kind of late now.. What can I do, at least for tomorrow?

I've iced it..So, I guess I should just tape it to the finger next to it.

I would say it is very likely you did break it. Ice it 20min on 20 off. Take some ibuprofen. You can tape it if you want. it won't do much though.
Get it x-rayed tomorrow. It may need a reduction, so please don't just assume it will heal on it's own.

If you do tape it, you can get a finger splint at most Drug stores. This will better immobilize it, as apposed to just taping it to the adjacent finger.

it sounds like it is broken ( i broke my finger playing bball to and it sounds like the same thing). ice it and then if you can find a pop sickle stick or something like that to use as a splint put it on there but also tape it to the finger next to it! hope this helps

spranged man

Tape it to a Popsicle stick, if you have one. In this way you only lose the use of one finger, and not two.

my friend broke her finger pretty badly. it was obviously broken but she never got it checked out. it hurt a lot for a while but eventually it felt better. if the finger isnt bent or out of place the only thing the doctor would do would be to tape it together

whoa it's weird but i just posted the same question almost and the exact same thing happend middle finger, the symptoms, blocking the basketball, jamming it, exactly what happened to me today my guess is we have sprained our fingers, and what i did is make a brace thing out of cardboard and tape
