I know my podiatrist is worng but who do I see now? Plz answer? Easy 2 or 10 poi!

Question: I hurt my ankle badly 3 weeks ago and on Monday I went to a podiatrist and he said it was probably just a sprain and said continue with the crutches. He also reccomended physical therapy. My mom made me an appointment for it but I know for a fact my podiatrist is wrong. I know for a fact my ankle is NOT supposed to be getting worse. I have been on crutches for 2 and a half weeks but I still cant walk. The pain is so bad it makes me cry. I'm going to get a second opinion to see if it's fractured/broken.
But who should I go to? (I mean, like what type of doctor?)

See if you can find another podiatrist for your second opinion. Stress the fact, who ever you go to, that you are in A LOT of pain and its only getting worse. You probably do have at least a fracture. Also, insist on an x-ray. You really have to put your foot down with these people in order to get the correct treatment these days. INSIST ON AN XRAY! Don't let these haughty doctors brush you off simply because they have taken on too many patients then they truly have time for.

Go to a Urgent Care and get an x-ray.

I am so sorry....your DR isn't correct. You may have a fracture. I bet you do..even a tiny can be horribly painful. (I have had a broken foot.) Go to another DR...how about the ER? God Bless....

Your primary care doctor or an orthopedist can evaluate you if to see if it is fractured/broken.

The doctor would just need to order plain films to see if there is an abnormality and go from there

Your friendly neighborhood orthopedic doc should be able to fix you up.

Not sure why you went to a podiatrist in the first place. Your PCP or GP would have been sufficient or even the ER. Either way the Dr. should have had you go for x-rays. Best of luck on the next Dr...and I hope you feel better soon.

Go to the ER or get another referral to see another podiatrist

See an orthopedist. A podiatrist is not an authority on ankle injuries. You went to the wrong kind of Dr. Go to the ER now.

I would make a BIG STINK to my Orthopedic surgeon.
It sounds like your ankle / cartilage is (somehow) either torn or is fractured. :-(
Either an Orthopedic surgeon or if it becomes so severe, I would recommend visiting your local Emergency Receiving Center.

Go to the emerancy room get xrays Then you will know
Or another foot doctor,,

I belive you have a very bad sprain my sis accually fractured her ankle one time and went without a cast. I sprained my arm badly and i played while playing soccer. although i did fall on it and have to be benched ;). Good luck with yer leg!

Either go to ER and get an x-ray or go to a bone specialist, they might be able to better tell you what's wrong, either way you are going to need x-rays.

Are you medically trained? Then you dont know for a fact. A spain is worse than a fracture - there is more soft tissue damage particularly on the lateral side of the ankle. It will be extremely painful is it is a bad sprain and will give you pain for a lot longer than a fracture will. Get an x ray if it makes you feel better - the best place is probably A&E to get it done quickly.

Go to a doctor and see an X-ray its a orthopedist you need to see not a podiatrist...I sprained and tore all three ligaments in my ankle and went to the hospital but see and orthopedist that is who you see for an ankle injury...(I know I've seen a few a few times I'm clumsy. hope you feel better,
Anytime you feel unhappy about your care get a second opinon but in this case that would be a orthopedist!

You should schedule an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon. (They specialize in broken/fractured bones and they will be able to tell you if it is broken/fractured or not). Also it is broken most likely you will need a cast... one time I hurt my hand and they weren't sure if it was broken but they put a cast on it anyway. I hope you feel better and I hope this helps.

Hmm well, two weeks ago, I terribly hurt my ankle. When I was in the ER, the Xray that came back showed that I had a broken leg. Considering the fact that my leg wasn't where it hurt, I decided to go to an orthopedic.
The orthopedic re-xrayed my leg, and said I have a small fracture in my leg, but I have a terrible sprain in my ankle. I was put in this unattractive boot like thing.
Anyways, the orthopedic told me that a bad sprain hurts worse than a break, and that it takes longer to heal.
So, have your parents take you to an orthopedic.

If you are worsening, I would start by calling the podiatrist. Fractures are often easily missed in the ankle and many times will not show up on an x-ray for several weeks...especially an avulsion fracture (where a sprain has been strong enough to actually pull the bone off). No decent podiatrist would deny you a follow up if you are worsening. And if he did, THEN I would seek out the opinion of an orthopedist.

It's very common to not be apparant on first examination, but subsequently be discovered to be a fracture. I'd give him/her another chance...if i were the podiatrist and you were getting worse, I'd definetely want to know and would do the further testing as appropriate...even if it didn't seem necessary at first visit.
