Did you actually break the bone of the upper arm, or did you dislocate the shoulder? Either way, you are young I presume, and the healing power in youth is wonderful. There is always a slight possibility that an injury will not heal as well as you might like, and by law the doctors have to warn you about all the possibilities. Just don't focus on the negative side of it, because that possibility mainly applies to the elderly or those whose healing ability is otherwise impaired. It's not the usual for a young otherwise healthy male. Physical therapy will help you maintain and preserve function of the arm, and although it may take a bit to get back full function of the arm it is still the biggest likely outcome. You did not lose any muscle at all, although until it all heals you may lose some tone. Once you are healed, you can simply return to your usual activities, and even take up a bit of extra exercise to rebuild to suit yourself. Depending on your tone prior to being injured, you may actually find the physical therapy improves things over what they originally were. Just stick with the program and do what they ask you to do. While you are in healing, it will do you a lot of good to be sure you are eating a very nutritious diet, with an increased amount of calcium to be sure building material for healing is in ample supply. Focus on healing at the moment, and not so much on worrying about what you may or may not be able to do later. Worry about later when it arrives. It's the now you live in that need attention.

you should do fine, a lot of hard work at rehab will pay off. Remember, it will hurt to get better.

it will heal and ur strength will return... it will just be a long recovery... i know that surgery is usually used as a last resort but u may need to think about it

there is a girl on my cheer team who recently(last year) had surgery to repair a fractured shoulder, she was out for a year but now she is able to stunt and tumble...

as far as reaching, it will take time but as long as u do the rehab then ur strength will come back

be patient and dont push urself...

Are You sure it was actually broken as well as being dislocated? i would clarify it with the dr.
