First off you do not have a third degree burn. You would require skin grafting for a full thickness burn. A third degree burn is characterized as follows
Color/ Appearance of burn: White, Black,Brown
Skin texture: leathery
Capillary refill: none
Spontaneous healing: NO
So the fact that it is healing (turning to a scar) says no third degree for you.
How far out are you from the day it was burnt?
5-10 days[ no scar (1st deg)
10-21 days[ no or minimal scar (superfical 2nd deg
25-60 days[ dense scar (deep partial thickness 2nd deg
no spontaneous healing (3rd deg)
What you most likely have is a superfical 2nd Deg burn.
Now what to do.
First stop putting a skin cream on it. The more times you touch a sore the more likely it is to get infected. What if anything you should have been using is a topical antibiotic.
Now what your describing is a burn that is a scar. If that is the case it the should be a layer of skin over the wound. If you are encountering signs of infection. See your doctor.
ALL Third degree burns regardless of size should be seen by a doctor. Are you sure you have a third degree burn?
Mederma works better. Both kinds of Mederma work the same, but kids' smells better--like grape, actually.
if it is a 3rd degree burn, it should be seen by a doctor. an infection could be deep and spread a lot.
SO SEE A DOCTOR!
If you have a burn that severe you NEED TO SEE A DOCTOR!!! That dead skin can cause infections to set in, which can complicate the wound and keep it from healing.
Go to the doctor asap. I had a friend that had a second degree burn on his arm get infected. It got so bad so fast, he had to get his arm removed.
