Hi there..... Anytime you have pain of any kind indicates something is wrong with your body. Swell.....you already knew that!!!!

Now, the next thing is to know some details which you do not give, so it will be hard. All this, you know is a guess.....

Is the pain one long string that happens at once between your naval and your chest in the very middle? Is is closer to your naval? Closer to your chest? In the middle? To the right or left a tad?

Your body has all kinds of organs stuffed inside you and there can be a problem, serious or minor, with any one of them.

If you were to go to the doctor and all the information you gave him was the above, he would at least ask you the above, then he would order blood work and X-rays. He would get your vital signs and ask you if you have symptoms such as nausea, the time of day these pains occur, how often and if they occur before eating, after eating, are you constipated, and he would also know if you have some sort of disease such as liver disease, heart disease, if you smoke or drink.

If the pain is straight up between you belly button and your chest, your stomach is located there and you could have an ulcer. Duodenal ulcer is the more common and the location would be about right. You may feel it in the back as well, depends on the location. You could have a kidney stone trying to pass down one of your two ureters which are tubes that connect between your kidney and your bladder. Halfway between would be between your naval and chest, a tad to the right or left.

Your gall bladder also can have stones lodged between your stomach and under the right rib area.

Your pancreas can also have a tube blockage. It shoots enzymes into your stomach in response to food and a blockage would cause pain, again near the middle of your stomach and perhaps a little to the left.

Between your naval and your chest is located your small intestine and part of your large intesting. Any one of those can have a problem..

So you can see, there are many possibilities. If you want a guess, here they are and perhaps these are only a few.

Us women also have ovaries with tubes running to the uterus which is around the naval and a blockage or tubal pregnancy can cause tremendous pain. Would be a tad to the right or left of exact middle of the stomach.

You can have a hernia in any area between the naval and chest.

All these pains you could very well feel in the back as well, because, quite frankly, your organs are "in the middle" of your body between the front and back :)

What can I say.......go see a doctor if those pains do not go away within 24 hours!!!

I am a Registered Nurse

This maybe gallstones or ulcer. See your doctor.

This pain could be so many different things, you really need to see a doctor...if could be serious, don't fool around

Sounds like it could be Shingles. Caused by the same virus that causes Chicken Pox, Shingles causes sharp, excruciating pains in the stomach area that radiate through to the back. There may or may not be some kind of rash/bumps. I'd definitely go see a doctor.

Answerer #1 could be right on the $$$. You could be having a gallbladder attack. Here is a link to view symptoms that come with having gallstones. Either way, if you feel so horrible, you should see a Dr. asap to make sure its nothing too serious. Gallstone can be serious too. They can become so big that they can block your bile duct and you can become deathly ill.

I suggest you see someone asap! Get well soon!

could just be gas. if you're worried, call a doctor. better safe than sorry, even if you do feel like a fool afterwards

see a doctor!!!!!
before it gets worse!!!
