Can a person get hooked on pain meds if they are taking them for pain?!

Question: You DEFINITELY can get hooked on pain meds weather you are abusing them or taking them as prescribed. I have personal experience with this and trust me, you DON'T want to get hooked on these. Over time they will damage your liver and can cause other problems as well. Hope this helps.

You didn't say which pain killers that You are concerned about, But most prescribed pain medication is habit forming if taken for a long period of time.

Narcotics cause physical dependency. With long term use this happens whether you are abusing them or for legitimate pain management.

Yes, you can get addicted to anything. Consult your doctor if you're worried that you're taking too many or for too long. Get a second opinion if they seem to be prescribing them too much or for too long (not always the doctor's fault, many of them are overworked and can't always keep track of how many meds you're on.)

simple answer-yes!

You can get hooked even if you don't want to. Your body likes them & when you withdraw form taking them, your body reacts in an adverse way.

Yes, except aspirin, naproxen sodium and other off-the-shelf meds, which is what doctors suggest, initially.

Yes, definitely. Ever seen the show House? That guy took Vicodin (or whatever he is addicted to) for pain and got majorly addicted. Not that you should be taking your medical advice from a TV show, that was just an example.

Chronic pain patients can become physically dependent on narcotics, however, physical dependent is not the same as addiction. Research has shown that less than 1% of chronic pain patients ever become addicted to narcotics when taken as prescribed.
