Yes, give it a go, but make sure you having something to eat beforehand. Fainting can be caused by low blood sugar.
I felt a bit faint the first time I did it, but it passes and isn't dangerous.
Make sure you have your drink and biscuit afterwards and take a friend along if you lack confidence.
Donating blood is a very valuable thing and you will be helping to save a life if you go ahead.

If you passed out because you are sensitive to the sight of blood, tell the nurse and ask her if she can cover the blood receptacle with a paper bag (this is how we do it at the clinic).
And avoid peeking.
Other than that, you are safe, so try not to give it much thought and help people who need it.
