How long does it take to give blood?!

Question: I've just booked my first appointment as a blood donor for 3:00 tomorrow. I was wondering how long it takes to get my blood taken assuming my appointment is on time.

In all the process takes about 45 minutes... That includes the prescreening, the blood donation itself and the sitting at the table eating cookies and drinking apple juice.

Thank you for donating blood! It will make a difference in someone's life.

Good job!

I've done it twice, and both times it took about 15 to 20 minutes, including the resting time after giving blood. Have a coke and a cookie after it!

Should not usually take more than one hour, it takes a bit longer for the first-timers as there might be some questions asked beforehand.

I used to give blood every couple of months. It usually took between 15 min and 30min to donate. However, when you get there you will have to fill out a questionairre, talk to someone, have your blood pressure and iron levels tested (ithink that's about it). After donating you will want to stay for at least 15 min afterward.

I have probably donated 30 times in my life and never had a problem until the last time, where I guess I got hypovolemic (too little fluid volume in my veins) and I started to black out, my heart started racing, cold-sweat and I couldn't call out. I'm a RN, so I just laid on the ground and put my feet on the chair until I felt better.

I'm not trying to scare you into not donating, just remember its important to always stay for a bit afterwards and not just jump in your car and leave.

Good luck to you and thank you for saving lives!
