Whats wrong with my Knee cap? please help!!!?!

Question: Today in school i was walking and all of the sudden i felt like my knee cap moved. Like, to the side of my knee or something. It caused me to collapse on the floor and everyone was surrounding me as i was tearing and someone got the nusre then the nurse came with a wheelchair and she rolled me down to her office. i am okay, i mean my knee doesn't HURT anymore but it feels really loose. What happened?

p.s- i have always been able to move my knee cap around a LITTLE bit but i thought it was because i was double jointed, cuz i am.

Considering your description it definitely sounds like your patella(knee cap) dislocated and slid itself back into place. Given the fact that you've always been able to move your patella around a little I'm guessing that your leg muscles are weak, your ligaments are loose, or both. It'd be best to check with your doctor on how you should proceed. Chances are if it happened once it could happen more and more frequently with the potential of causing damage. Another thing to consider is that you have joint laxity(looseness) is that its going to be a lot easier to tear those ligaments in your knee. You may need to look into doing something to strengthen the muscles that stabilize your knee. But best bet is to see you doctor and go with what he/she decides for you. Hope this helps!

you could have water in your knee-or should i say surrounding you knee. go to the doctor and get it checked out.

dislocation?

I Would Suggest Going To The Hospital Or Doctors Just To Get It checked Out It Might Be Nothing But Just To Be On The Safe Side I Would Get It checked Out. Its Your Knee do What You Feel Is Best, You May Just Think Its Becasue Your Double Jointed Or What Ever But Ide Rather Be Safe Then Sorry x

It sounds like you may have dislocated your kneecap, & then had it slide back into place. I did the same thing at 14. They put me in a soft cast for 12 weeks, then had me do exercises to build up the strength lost. Surgery was advised, but w/out insurance, that was out of the question. It's been 40+ years, & every once in a while, it slips out & right back in. Its not a good feeling, but it doesn't actually hurt unless it fails to slide back. Get it looked at, so that years down the road, you aren't still dealing w/it. I have really bad arthritis in that knee. Good luck!
