Well welcome to the club! I broke my tib/fib as well about 2 and a half weeks ago and have the same full leg cast. it hurts alot. Ok well that aside, Itches I have not found any effective way of getting rid of the itches. Wire does work but use caution you run the risk of causing an open scratch wich can become infected. The inside of the cast is usually hot and sweaty, perfect breeding ground for bacteria. Ok bathing so the absolute easiest way to bathe is to use 2 small stools. Preferably the height of your tub. One stool goes in the tub and one is placed outside the tub. You sit on the one in the tub and elevate and support your leg with the other stool/side of the tub. If you can not locate stools or steps try a stack of towels or some type of waterproof cube and use the side of the tub to elevate your leg. Do not try and sit on the bottom of the tub and elevate you leg it is too painful. also, wrap your leg in a plastic trash bag at least the top of the cast. I find the glad 30gal force flex to be good for this. You may also want to place a few small towels at the top of the cast to catch any water that may seep in. Ok so once you are in position you can either fill the tub with about 4 to 6 inches of water and use washcloths and a cup to bathe or Place the shower curtain over you leg and turn the shower on. Yes you have to become flexbile to keep your leg out of the tub but you will get used to it. it would be wise to have someone help you initially. Oh one last thing make sure you dry yourself off before you stand up and becareful not to slip. Well good luck and I wish you a speedy recovery. I hope this helps.

you have to take sponge baths as far as the itching goes get a long piece of wire to scratch with

when i was in 4th grade i broke my arm and my thumb. what i did for when i shower is you have to wrap your cast with a black plastic bag. like the ones you use for garbage. For the itching part you can use like a ruler to put into your cast and just rub it around. usually helps. sometimes if you give your cast a light tap where you itch, it helps as well.

You can do the bag trick with the long leg cast as well ... we usually recommend using two since you can guarantee that one is going to have a hole in it. If the cast does get wet, take a hairdryer to it ... if it gets saturated contact your doctor for a cast change.

As for the itching ..... BENADRYL! That is the only thing that will help resolve the itching ... Sticking ANYTHING in the cast is not recommended in that you can cut yourself and the wound could become infected or cause skin breakdown ... Benadryl has a nondrowsy formula if your concerned about being sleepy
