Bug bite things?!

Question: For the past year or so every once in a while, both my husband and I get one or two VERY itchy bumps on our arms. They look like mosquito bites. But, we NEVER see a bug. We even get them in the winter (we live in CT). They go down after an hour or so or if you put cortisone on them. I usually get them on my arm, my husband on his chest.
I know it is none of these things:
bed bugs
scabies
or anything like that..we have also switched laundry soap, regular soap, and so forth. We have no fleas, just a bird, and we got the bumps before we had the bird. We have gotten them both at home and at work, in our living room and bedroom, as well.......any ideas??

p.s.
Please do not answer "go to the doctor" or "It's an STD"
I report answers like that..I see no point in wasting my time and my doctors time for dumb bug bite things!!!!!

It sounds like an allergy to something, especially if hydrocortisone helps and it's itching. The key is tracking down what is causing it, which of course is the hardest thing of all. Probably the best thing you can do is to start keeping a diary of everything that you come into contact with that day or eat and the next time you get the bumps, you can note if you did anything different. Then it's just a case of narrowing down the item that caused it.
