Question: so i pretty much shattered my ankle while playing football and i got a cast on for about 4 weeks then i was soo sick of it i cut it off myself. HUGE mistake i was supposed to take it off 2 weeks later. i wore a brace kinda thing for a month and i was still limping and it hurt a lot. turns out i still needed a cast for 1 more week. when the doctor took that one off it was fine for about a week then i started to use it like i used to and im getting these wierd strains in my muscles and joints that really hurt my ankle my doctor just says its atrophy or something but its been like this for 3 weeks what should i do to get back to a normal state

Atrophy can occur when a limb has been in a plaster cast it is the wasting of the muscles what you need is a little gentle exercise to encourage the muscles to get back into normal mode. It sounds as if you might need to be a little more patient with your self !!! why not ask your doctor if a little physiotherapy might help once you know what exercises you need you can carry on with them yourself. The thing I found most helpful was swimming the water takes the weight of the limb and so the exercise is easier. Hope you get back on both feet very soon

go to a private doctor or something if ur current doctor seems like he doesnt relli care about it, and this time make sure u dont take anything of early

Good . . . question?

Go to a physio who will give you exercises to strengthen the muscles. Atrophy is muscle wastage so you need to start exercising them PROPERLY not just what you think is right as clearly thats what you've done so far and its not made things easier for you has it? Casts are on for 6 weeks for a reason.

Ask your doctor for a prescription for physical therapy ... they will be able to teach you exercises to strengthen the ankle and lower extremity.

Not to lecture but next time be more compliant with your care... there is a reason he has an MD after his name and you don't.

does it hurt you bend it back and forth? My knee still hurts after falling off a trampoline onto my right knee.It has been over a year and a half. belive that knee injury might never heal. I have a tip which might sound retarded and tear up your knee tissue. This is what i did. I bent my knee till it hurts so badly, then i kept bending it and then i sat on it. i was in so much pain, but then it started to strech out the tissue. and then i took my knee out and now it stop hurting so bad. why didnt i think of this before?

Or if you dont want to risk knee tissue of tearing then subscribe to http://www.enduringresults.com/subscribe... .athough i just started this free program alot of other people said their knees stopped hurting in less than seven days.

hoped i helped

sounds like you did the same thing i did two years ago. i was 13 at the time when i had a surfing accident. i was in a cast for 2 months i had trouble walking on it for some time. i would love to go back to the doctors because my ankle is still not right. but i have a fear of doctors.
i found that before going to sleep do some small exercises with your ankle. and after i while you should be able to walk on it. i still get really bad pain in my ankle but I'm use to it now. hope you don't have as much trouble as i do with it.
