Does anyone else get weird heart palpitations?!

Question: I'm 26 years old and over the past several years I've gotten weird heart palpitations. It will be beating normally and then it will feel like is spasming or something. Sometimes it feels like it skips beats. Sometimes it feels like a gushing. Sometimes I feel a little lightheaded after it happens but it does not hurt. I have had so many tests done- EKG's, ultrasound of my heart and the arteries in my neck, stress test. All the tests come back perfect. If all these tests are fine should I stop worrying. Could it have to do with high stress levels. I have three kids and a crazy life. Could that cause it? Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated because this scares me a lot!

Leigh, I had the exact same thing myself starting in my twenties. it sounds like you have been checked out pretty thoroughly on several occasions. I've found, despite our normal human inclination to worry about the worst things it might be, that it is usually the most common causes that are the culprit. By far, the most common cause is anxiety. With 3 kids and a crazy life, you are a great candidate. Often, just the knowledge that it really is nothing reduces the frequency and awareness of them. In more severe cases, medication can be used but i recommend staying away from this route if you can manage. There are side effects to all medications which are often as bad as the condition itself. Hope this helps and that it resolves quickly for you. Feel free to contact me if you need more info as I've been down a whole lot of paths with this condition. Good luck.

I have the same problem....I was told that it is simply a hiccup of the heart and as long as they do not come often or repeatedly then there is nothing to worry about.

Try asking the doctor to check the thyroid

I am 32 and have had the same thing since I was about 18. I have had many tests and they come back fine. It was diagnosed as anxiety and it is heredity. (my mom has them sometimes) I take 5mg of Lexapro to help with the anxiety. If I don't keep up on my exercise, it gets worse. I run 4-6 miles 4-5 times per week, lift weights and teach aerobics. I recently started taking 50 mg of CoQ10 and that has really seemed to help. I think it is something we will have to live with. Try to keep your stress low, stay away from caffeine and sugar and I think exercising is a really big key. Good luck and if you worry about it, it will just make it worse!
