It is most likely a growing pain. There really isnt a way to stop that from happening. You might have also pulled a muscle recently. Consult a physician, or try to put some ice on it. Put as little pressure on it as possible, and just relax.

I get leg cramps and that is what it feels like but i get mine in the day too. just mostly at night. My neighbor told me sometimes you get leg cramps from not having enough salt in your diet. she told me to just put a little pinch of salt under your tongue and it should go away. i tried it and it felt better immediately and all the way better in a few Min's. now i keep a bottle of salt on my end table and put a little pinch under my tongue when i wake up with leg cramps. hope i helped it works for me.

That has happened to me numerous times. I recommend resting, and putting pressure on said area.

I get that also and I was told that poor circulation and a calcium deficiency aggravates it. Walk as much as possible or do leg stretches during the day. I also find that when I get spasms, if I stretch my leg and by pulling up my toes (simulate the position of walking or standing as opposed to pointing your toes like a ballerina,) and that helps me tremendously. You may also want to try sleeping in cotton socks to keep your feet and calves warm as spasms seem to happen more frequently when the feet are cold. Now, if I could just figure out why my son gets leg spasms when he goes swimming.
