How can I take care of my ankle without anyone noticing???!

Question: I hurt my ankle, and I don't want to tell anyone cause they will say things like stay off of it and all that. But that isn't a good thing because I have USA swimming (ends in a month), and middle school swimming (starts in about a week and ends a week after USA). So I don't want to miss any practice because I am only a little bit off of the last few qualifying times before I have a qualifying time in all the events I swim....

So I don't want anyone to know....

Thanks!!!

tape your foot if you are going to be walking on it and wear jeans and shoes. also at home ice it a lot. and what really helps muscles is to take an Epsom salt bath (you can get epsom salt at local stores). one time i pulled my hamstring during a soccer tournament and could barely walk i took an epsom salt bath that night and the next day i could play in my soccer game. it really helps muscles. so tape, ice, soak it, do your tryouts and if it doesn't get better see a doctor. i have been in the same situation and it;s better get it healed then do some permanent damage

hope this helps

you can take a disposable ice pack and wear long pants, tape the ice pack around your ankle. also whenever you can keep your leg elevated. take some tylenol or motrin to stop the pain. and lastly try to rest it if you can,

Of course you should have a doctor look at it to make sure that there is no damage done. But to answer your question, Ice and/or heat, no more than 30 minutes at a time. Stay off it as much as you possibly can. NSAIDS such as (aleve, motrin, naprosyn) can help with inflammation. But make sure that you are able to take them first and always follow the label. I know I already said it, but stay off it every possible moment that you can. Elevate the affected ankle above the heart to help also.

You know, you really should tell someone. The reason for this is that a good MD will tell you what you need to do to help heal in time for your swim events. If you are an athlete most MD's respect that and will help you out. They will understand what a big deal this is. My daughter plays advanced soccer and our MD helped come up with a "soft" cast that would allow her to compete in a tournament. Your parents also will be on your side. They want you to succeed in swimming too. Unless you have a very serious injury you should be able to swim and if were really serious I don't think you'd be able to hide it.

Let your family help you . You may be able to wrap it or ice it when you are not swimming. Most ankle injuries if cared for properly get better very quickly...especially if you are young. GOOD LUCK.

this probably isn't what you want to hear... but the best thing for you to do is stay off of it... im not a doctor but i do work with plenty of medic's (army related issues like this occurre alot more than most people think)... if swimming is really your dream then you should take all precautions to make sure that you do not make the injury worse... ice, heat, and some other stuff may take the swelling down... also keep it wrapped tight but not 2 the point your cutting off circulation to ur leg or to the point it goes completely numb... i however can not stress that you need to stay off of it for a few dayz... a little bit of time not being able 2 swim is well worth not reinjuring it further and keeping it from being a dream come true

You should listen to the advice given to you on here as to how to treat it and you should tell your mom. You shouldn't take the chance of something being really wrong and popping up later. Good luck.
