Any tips on quitting smoking?!

Mind over matter. Decide what kind of person you want to be and behave like that person. "I am an attractive, healthy, non-smoker." Does a healthy, attractive person smoke? No - so when you think about taking up a cig, tell yourself that you are not the kind of person who smokes . If you screw up and have one, forgive yourself, but don't give up and go back to smoking. Reassure yourself with positive affirmation every night.

Look yourself in the mirror before you go to bed and recognize all your accomplishments for the day - "I went for 6 hours without a cigarette, and then I only had one." Or, "I went all day long without a cigarette - I am in control of myself! I rock!" Make sure you recognize your accomplishments and don't beat yourself up for your mistakes. Every day, it will get easier to not smoke because you'll enjoy looking at yourself in the mirror and talking to yourself nicely. If you do that, you will negate any desire to berate yourself for messing up and smoking. You'll find you will feel more powerful and in control of your destiny, rather than a slave to a vice.

End your positive affirmations by congratulating yourself for having the wisdom to want to live a healthy life and tell yourself, "I love you." I know, it sounds corny, but it works with any problem I'm working on.

The patches and the gum work well but you're really just trading one nicotine delivery system for another (and they ain't cheap either)! My secret trick? Blowpops.

I know they work for some people. but for me....instead of being addicted to cigs, I got addicted to the patch.-I need some tips too!!lol

Don't buy them in the first place.
No one forces you to buy them.
Put the money in a jar and later buy yourself something nice with it.
Something you always wanted.
Something that makes you feel good.
Instead of smelling and tasting like an ashtray.

cold turkey is the best way...say a prayer and go for it...I did and have been smoke free since Dec.1991 never wanted another one...thank you Jesus...

my mom used the gum and quite. but it taste nasty but it does help for some. my mother n law has quite cold turkey its been 45 days now. she got sick and the doc told her she had to or else and she did. she had gum or candy around for when she wanted one. and some insurances will pay for 2 weeks of patches. you just have to call the quite hot line and get signed up

JUST TRY TO SOME ONE CIG LESS A DAY THAT IS WHAT MY MOM DID AND SHE IS NOW NOT SMOKING FOR 2 YRS.. AND SHE WAS A SMOKERS FOR OVER 30 YRS... AND WHEN SHE FELT LIKE SMOKING SHE WITH TAKE A PUFF OR TWO AND TURN IT OFF, THEN SHE WILL CHEW GUM.. IT REALLY HELPED HER..

Go to whyquit.com, they have motivational and help for quitting "cold turkey" they have a really neat Timetable for smoking recovery that I found especially helpful, it tells you how the body starts repairing itself, even after only 1 day!!! It then goes to 1 week, 1 month etc. This was a very positive way to motivate yourself, because it shows you immediate results! I quit smoking 13 months ago, and it has been the best gift I have ever given myself!!! You CAN do it, I wish you the best, and hope I have helped.
