Have I injured my calf muscle??!

Question: I've been walking about 5 miles every day for 2 months. Last week I decided to add a few small hills in my routine. Next day when I tried to walk, I only went 1 mile and my calf and part of my hamstring started to get really tight and felt like they were going to cramp. I stopped and did some stretches, which helped only a little and was sort of painful. Every day since then I have only been able to walk a little over 2 miles because my leg starts to hurt, get tight and wants to cramp. I take calcium (1200mg) every day. I warm up and stretch before every walk and stretch afterwards. What's going on, and what do I do?? Do I have to take a few days off, or what. What about potassium??

The first cramp may have been due to the hills the day before. It also may have caused small tears in the muscle which would explain the continued pain. Keep doing your warm up and walking as much as you can without too much pain, stay well hydrated, talk to a doctor or a nutritionist about potassium supplements. This should heal with time.

u probably torn or stretch a muscle close to the bone. take a few days off but put a little pressure on it,......it might take a while to get better depends on what u do all day!!

It sounds like a similar injury to what I have at the moment. So I'll tell you what I have.
It's called DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness). It's the initial response to unaccustamed exercise, when you strech previously unstreched muscle fibers. You should be able to keep exercising without doing yourself any further damage. The pain will go away after time. That is IF you have DOMS.
If it persists I recomend going to see your Dr.
