Post surgery sleep problems?!

Question: I had surgery about 2 weeks where I am to be "down" for 3-4 weeks. The first week, I just slept and now this last week, I am in bed trying to go to sleep at 10:00pm, but not able to get to sleep until 5 or 6am, then getting up at noon. One day I set my alarm at 9am, and stayed up all day (rather iritating to be around) and still my body still wouldn't let me sleep until 5:00am. I have tried sleeping aids, baths, warm milk, back rubs, and all I can think of. Please advise...please remember I can't exercise, or be "up" too much for another week or two.

Neither of your meds would interfere with your sleeping, so I would try this:
1. Only sleep is allowed in bed, when you are "down", be elsewhere- ie couch, chair, etc.
2. Start a sleep regiment today; take a warm bath at 10:00pm, go to bed after, weather you are tired or not, and stay in bed. Get up at 8:00am, even if you only slept a couple hours. Stay awake all day, and start over tomorrow the same thing.
3. Do not eat anything after 7:00pm, your body will be digesting the food, and not allow rest.

Sounds like your body after the surgery is unaware of day and night - and needs healthy food, lots of water, and regular sleep. Hope this helps.

Discuss this with your doctor. Perhaps you are taking medication that interferes with sleep.
