Pain prescription and uncooperative doctor? What would u do? Long story! Need ad!

Question: Hi, I am having issues with my dr. mostly due to the fact that calling the nurse involves leaving a message on voicemail that may or may not be returned within a week's time. My dr. was prescribing me lortab 5s and when I called to get it refilled the nurse told me that they were no longer prescribing them to me until I found an orthopedist for my back issues. The problem is, I was working with the other nurse to be referred and was waiting on her to call me back!!! After 2 weeks I was finally referred and have an appt. in the middle of Feb. I have been waiting since Thurs. for the nurse to call me back to tell me if the dr. will prescribe me medicine until I can see the ortho! One more day of pain and I will seriously go crazy! If she doesn't prescribe me the medication what can I do when the pain gets so bad? What would you do?

Wow sweetie, you're still having trouble with this nurse and doctor (i read your question, but didnt leave an answer a few days back). First off, im terribly sorry you're still going through this unneeded problem/pain. Personally, I would call that nurse, specifically ask for her and tell her everything you've expressed here. Its very unprofessional of their office to leave a respected patient hanging and waiting for some sort of reply while knowing you're in extreme pain. Also, maybe in the meantime.. if all else fails, can you go to your doctor's office and speak with them directly, talk to them about this issue of what seems to be "overlooking" your pain? If they decide to tell you your script cannot be filled, I would just go to your nearest emergency room. They're not taking your situation serious from what it seems like, which THAT is a shame...not you! Do not feel bad at all. You certainly cant (and dont) wanna be in pain for the next couple weeks until you see your ortho. Good Luck to you & God Bless.

As a nurse who once worked in an office for a doctor I can tell you that they are not intentionally putting you off. A family physican can only go so far to help you, and once his/her attempts fail they will need to refer you to a specialist. DONT wait for them to call you. YOU need to call them. Call everyday if you have to. Maybe they are concerned about some sort of dependancy issue. Lortab is not a strong pain medication. You know what craks me up? People giving thumbs down to peoples answers when the person answering the question has lots of experience in the subject. I am telling you the God's honest truth. Dont listen to people who are not in the medical field when you are asking medical questions.

You could try other alternatives like over the counter pain relievers. I know it's not the same, but it might help until you can see this doctor. Sometimes GP's don't like to prescribe meds that they think you are becoming accustom to. This very thing happened to my friend. She has a horrible back and she was on meds and the doc stopped because he felt she needed to see another doctor for them (politely telling her she was addicted to them) I would call back again and leave another message. Don't feel ashamed or embarrassed. How were you to know he cut you off the meds. He should at least return your call, in the mean time I wish you the best.

if its that bad, then I would go to the ER, explain the situation, and see what they will give you. Sometimes they will give you enough to last u til ur next appt. If that doesn't work, call back and ask to talk to ur dr instead of the nurse. I don't know what else to say, a lot of drs are getting finicky about giving out narcs cuz the FDA can come in and basicaly do an audit to find out who all they are giving narcs to and if they find that the dr is giving out a lot of narcs he can get fined...that may explain it...but i dont know for sure

Make an appointment to see the Dr. Tell them you need to get in right away that you are in pain. then tell the Dr. just what you said here. He she should keep you comfortable till you can see the Ortho I had a nurse who wouldn't even talk to the Dr. she just went on her lil power trip and made herself the "Morality police" When I got in to see the Dr. he had NO problem giving me my meds. Some Dr.s are so afraid that you will get addicted or are abusing pain meds that they get all freaky about them! Its the junkies like Rush Limbou who screw it up for those who need pain relief. Keep calling till you talk to person ,Dont take No for an answer Get in to the Dr. Good Luck
