Ibruprophen/Cuprofen and paracetamol?!

Question: I am really ill, Ive got a really bad flu/cold thing. Im really shakey and cold, achey, shivery and also have a swollen face and neck because my sinuses and throat is all inflamed.
I want to take paracetamol to take the feverishness away and anti inflammitories to reduce the swelling in my nose and face. Is this safe?
Im too ill to go out to the chemist, havent slept properly for 2 nights and feel sick.
Do you think it would be ok to take these 2 meds?
I cant be having with phoning NHS direct, everytime i have phoned them for advice in the past, they have said to get to A+E or your GP, so find them useless.

you can take ibuprofen and paracetamol together the ibuprofen will take away fever anyways so if your not sure just take them thake them wi milk as they are a stomach irritant, Best way to take them is alternative keep it going around the clock so no symptoms can creep in.

Yes it is perfectly safe. My daughter has a bone disease & on the advice of her consultant I've been giving her these two meds together for years.

Yes, they are anti inflammatory not pain killers. Just watch how many you take..

you can take ibuprophen and then pars two hours after and so on and so fourth.

you can take the two together because they are two different types of analgesic. just don't overdo it. take both and go to bed with a hot water bottle and get plenty of rest. dont forget to drink loads of fluids too. get well soon

You can take the daily limit of both Ibuprofen and Paracetamol together safely. Just don't have too much paracetamol if you're taking Lemsips etc as these contain loads of it.

you should be ok but dont take more than the stated dose if you want a good drink hot lemonade and honey is good

Yes you can take them together. It's sometimes better to take them 2 hours apart, not because it's dangerous to take them together, but because it provides better coverage of the time (when tablets wear off after 3 hours or before the next dose)
Dont take any paracetamol if you've taken Lemsip within the past 4 hours though.

Yes, you can take paracetamol and ibruprofen together. Take them once every four hours. Are you a bloke with man flu? Women don't usually make such a fuss!

You can take them both together at 4hr intervals. Ibuprofen has anti-inflammatory properties. Don't take any other products though because most will contain these two anyway which will push you over the maximum dosage.

You may wish to use both paracetamol and ibuprofen at the same time to reduce pain and fever. There is no known harmful interaction between paracetamol and ibuprofen in people over the age of 16.

Paracetamol should always be the first choice as it has fewer side effects than ibuprofen. It is therefore better to take paracetamol first and then use ibuprofen 1-2 hours later, but only if the paracetamol has not worked in controlling your symptoms. If necessary, further doses can be taken at the same time, as long as you avoid overdosing on either medicine.

You should reconsider the need to take both paracetamol and ibuprofen on a daily basis because it's best to avoid taking unnecessary medicines. If your symptoms persist, you should contact NHS Direct on 0845 4647, or see your GP.

n not at the same time take the paracetamol first and have the cuprofen 4hours later

i have been advised by a dr and by a pharmacist that i can take paracetamol, or paracetamol+codeine tablets in conjunction with ibuprofen tablets.

Hello,

(ANS) From what you are describing you have all the classic symptoms of flue or influenza, you have a high temperature and YES! you will feel rotten. This is probably a viral infection so there are few drugs that can be given as such.

**My advise is YES! by all mean take the paracetamol (you can safely take up to x8 paracetamol tablets per 24hrs). i.e. x2 tablets every 4hrs but not more than this.

**The paracetamol should help in reducing the temperature, the aches & pains and generally help you start to feel more comfortable.

NOTE: However, if the symptoms don't improve after 3-4 days YES! you should make an appointment to see your GP as soon as possible. And No! I doubt the GP will make a house call, you would have to be much much more seriously sick before you would get a home visit these days.

Finally, NO! my advise is unless you know for 100% certain that both of your drugs can safely be taken in parallel i.e. at the same time. I would leave well alone. Only take the paracetamol.

**Unless a qualified doctor has told you it completely safe to take both anti inflammatory drugs & the paracetamol at the same time. I wouldn't take the risk, because one could be contra-indicated or could clash and produce unwanted side effects. So if in doubt leave it out is my advise.

Kind Regards from Ivan

PS: Hope you start to feel better soon, take care.

Yes you can take Paracetamol and Ibuprofen together.

Make sure you take no more than 8 of each per day... in 4 hourly intervals.

Get well soon.

I took find NHS Direct useless!!!
