I am 32 and started smoking when I was 15. I have quit for a year now. I just decided to quit b/c it's sooo expensive and nasty and will kill you. I didn't chew gum and all that stuff, I just quit. I still think about it in the morning while drinking coffee or after a big meal, but I just keep on what I was doing and forget it. For the 1st few days will be the roughest..after that, you are in the clear! Best thing is not to be around others who smoke, at least at first so you wont be tempted. Once you have quit for a while, when you get around smoke, you will be disgusted by the smell. You can do it! Think about how much money you will save, b/c if you think about the death factor..you never would've started in the 1st place..so it's never good advice to tell someone how unhealthy it is, if your addicted, it rules out common sense when it comes to that...you already know it's bad for you...so think logically about how much money you will save. Good luck!

my mom quit when i was 9. i am now 13. when she was quitting she always chewed on straws and stuff(:
Try it!!:!:!:1

Good job, iv heard its very hard. I dont have to worry becaue i dont smoke and i never will.

You can do it

I used the patch. Are you chewing the gum while wearing the patch? That might be a bit too much nicotine at once. If you are doing that, you should probably stop one or the other.

I know exactly how you feel about the cravings and it does take a while, but don't give up! The physical cravings will end a lot sooner than the mental ones. Find something busy to do with your hands - I tried knitting, but all I got out of it were some broken down looking potholders. It did keep me busy, though.

Also, avoid doing things that you usually did when smoking. For me it was playing cards or having a drink. I just didn't do those things for a while either.

Good luck!

My tutor was telling us that she got a special inhaler..whenever she felt like a smoke she took the inhaler..she said it helped! ask yur local pharmacie..Good luck and dont give up !! Just keep thinking about your health and that is worth it !! =D

I never started- so no problem-Congratulations. Because of you there is less smoke pollution from today

I quit several times. The best way, which worked for me, is to also not hang around other smokers. That will instantly trigger the cravings. Occupy your mind with constructive things.

I have quit for a year now and the hardest thing was going cold turkey. No patches, no help. The part that helped me was when I started to run again. I thought my lungs were going to die on me. That feeling kept me going everytime I got the urge I would go running and my lungs started to feel better and better. You have to keep busy or distracted. Get a bag of twizzlers. That will help with the oral fixation for now.

Myself finally quit this year after 15 years and am proud to have done it cold turkey.Although I have known people who had success with the gum and the patch..Good Luck it's a tough battle.

oh great quitter, put the burden of paying those taxes for health care on me. watch smokes go up again. my buddy coulda told ya a success story he quit smoking cold turkey after 35 yrs. never used the patch and never slipped once. then he started again heavier than before, exactly 2yrs less a day, from the day he quit when he went to jail.

There are several methods. Best method is to tell everyone that you are quitting smoking. Tell them that if they ever see you smoking a cigarette, you owe 25 cents. The next time you smoke, you them 50 cents. And the cost goes up 25 cents every time.

You'll want to quit before you go broke!

I quit smoking at 43 after 27 years of it thru a program called Smoke-enders.
They said that smoking is both a physical (nicotine) addiction and a social one. You're talking about the social one. Holding something in your hand, etc.
We got over both in 5 weeks.
You'll get over it. Stick with it. After a while you'll forget all about it.
Its the best thing you'll ever do for yourself.

First, I want to say good for you! I quit when I was 23 and had smoked since I was 15- this was before the patch and gum. I decided that I was also going to get my body in shape so that I didn't gain a bunch of weight when I quit. Whenever I craved a cigarette, I would go and run full speed around the block. Because I got winded and was out of shape,it made me feel sick and I would cough. I would mentally try and imagine smoking a cigarette at that moment and it completely killed that urge since I was choking. I also avoided some other smoking triggers (like coffee and beer) until the real physical cravings had subsided. It was a long and hard road, but I haven't had a cigarette in 10 years- and I'm in good shape! I don't miss smoking one bit! Good luck to you!

There are several aspects to this. One is to find something to do with your hands. Two is something to do with your mouth, three is to realize what triggers you to want to smoke, four is the changes that are in the lungs when the inflammation goes down, USE CHANTIX

I quit smoking twice in my life. The withdraw ls are tough but can be soothed by your thoughts. You should occupy your time with physical activities. The more you perspire the better it is for you.Lots of lemon and citrus fruit will also take the cravings away. You really don't want to subject your body to any nicotine at all.Patches will just continue the urges.Get it out of your system and be done with it! Remember that you have made a conscious decision to stop smoking,so just do not smoke and the quality of your life will improve 100%

well all I know is that if you dont quit your lungs and face will look like that-http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=h... sorry I dodnt know of any way to quit smoking than truly wanting to!!!! good luck!!!!!!!!!

You have alot of good suggestions here, hell, if I were you I'd try them all, chew on straws,go running, chew gum, heck, I'd try all of em.Awhile ago, the Seventh Day Adventist Chruch was doing a program on what to do when you're trying to quit. The one I remember the most was whnever I felt like smoking a cigarett eat some fruit. Get a big can of that mixed fruit, when the urge comes, take about 4 or 5 teaspoons of it. Get some oranges and fruit with alot of that acid you find in some fruits. It helps alot. I think if I had of stayed with it I would be a non-smoker today.I think if you get the patch(leave the gum alone, that is way to much nicotine) and alot of fruit cocktail and oranges you would be able to do it. Good Luck!!!!!

Just imagine that the addiction is a weird monster inside your body. (It really is too!)
It has to DIE.
Every time you have a smoke it revives, every time you don't it dies a bit more. Keep going and you will kill it.

Good Luck
