Will steriod injections for pinched nerve pain result in weight gain?!

Question: I have a pinched nerve in my neck (between 4-5 vertebrae) that has been giving me a lot of trouble over the past 8 years or so. My doctor mentioned that if the chiripractor can't help me, then the next step would be steriod injections.

I am assuming my doctor means cortisone, but I am hesitant because I know some steriods can result in weight gain. Is this the case for steriod injections used to treat this kind of pain? If you have had them, did you experience weight gain?

No, the injection stays in the area and is not absorbed, unlike oral medication, so no weight gain. I have had several and no weight gain. Good Luck

I have never had them but I did work for a Chiropractor that provided them. I never saw any of our patients gain weight as a result. The shots are placed directly into the disc and are guided by an ultrasound to make sure of where they are placed, so as not to do any nerve damage. With that being the case it is not like taking an oral steroid that travels throughout the body, rather it is specific to where the pain is, to reduce inflammation and pain. The Dr. should have a brochure on the proceedure for you to review as well as a form explaining the risks associated with the proceedure with a list of possible side effects.

I have the same problem except I've had 2 fusion surgeries. I've had the steroid shots several times over the past 10 years and they never effected my weight.

By the way, I went to a chiropractor before I ended up with a orthopedic doc and the treatments the chiropractor did on me actually made me worse. Causing permanent nerve damage.

So now I have been in a pain management program for years and will be in it for the rest of my life.

So please be careful. If you start to feel worse after going to him/her, don't just think it will get better, sometimes it doesn't
