RA or Rheumatoid Arthritis has 'flares' followed by 'remission'. A flare is when the joints hurt. Borderline means you have the Rheumatoid Factor, which is found in many healthy people, who never have any joint problems. However, the all important titer or count comes into play. So a count above 25 would be considered borderline, while mine is 90, so long standing RA. As for the pain, that is a individual thing. At the start of my RA I felt as if amputation would be the cure. Now 30 years later, it is an annoyance because I have learned to deal with it. Likewise I have never been on prednisone, refuse to take it. Prednisone is a steroid and while it does knock the inflammation on the head, you run the possibility of 'damaging' yourself and not knowing it. I once took it for a chest infection and according to my Mother I was 'hyper' decorated two bedroom in three days! I then collapsed into bed for five days! So by the time you got to the Doc you were flaring. He did the test and stated you are borderline, so the flare had diminished, going into remission, hence that was reflected in the blood test. Good Luck

Sorry, I can't tell you why you have so much pain but if you have arthritis you may want to refer to the links below: One relates the following: "The pain and swelling of her cruelly twisted fingers had disappeared within the first week, and her arthritis receded rapidly from then on."

This was all from eating 4 to 6 ounces of seafood a day.
