First of all congratulations on quitting! You will have cravings from time to time for a long time. But Iam quite sure that the cravings will pass very quickly if you get busy with doing something you enjoy. If you are at home when this happens you could go into the bathroom and brush your teeth. This worked for me.I quit smoking on July 9th 2000 I never have cravings now. But for the first year or so I kept drinking straws cut in the length of a cigarette, I kept them all around my house, Some times I needed to hold something in my fingers. The drinking straw was just the right size around and after I cut it they were just the right length. I'd draw air through it and even inhale the fresh air hold it and exhale just like I were smoking. It was the activities of smoking that I missed the most.I still have a few of those straws but I never need them anymore. You could give my straw ( pacifier) trick. I've told this to friends who have quit and they say it works for them as we..

Hmmm.. In some people they might not.

I quit a little over a year ago, and I have not had a craving for 8 months or so.

But I wasn't a BIG smoker, maybe half a pack a day on bad days, usually only 3-4 cigs per day.

They will eventually go away. Addiction is hard to beat. Keep beating it.

They diminish over time. I smoked for 10 years but quit about two and a half years ago. Each time you go do something you used to smoke while doing, it's another challenge. But, once you go do it and get through it without smoking, it gets easier. For example, going to a bar and not smoking was really hard. It took quite a few times doing that before I didn't come home mad about not smoking. I broke stuff even. Going to my first concert without smoking was hard. I could even break that down into genres. I was like, "oh man, I've been to a rock concert without smoking, but I haven't gone to a country concert without smoking." Or, "yeah, I made it at the jazz club without smoking, but this is my first time doing electronic music without smoking". It would be hard each time. And going to New Orleans for the first time as a non smoker was really hard . . . so was New York.

But, now that I've done just about everything I used to like to do as a smoker . . . as a nonsmoker, cravings are extremely rare. And, all our friends smoke! Just last weekend I was redoing our kitchen and I was really stressed out because the weather wasn't cooperating, we were spending way more money than we planned or even had, and we were supposed to host a party in 48 hours. The whole time, I was fully aware that a friend had left a full pack of smokes in our freezer from the weekend before and the notion of going for them just barely crossed my mind . . . but that was it. Just a vapor of an idea, but not a true craving. I was actually truly amazed by the fact that it was never a struggle.

So, I am here to report that it does get much better over time. It may not go away absolutely completely, but very very very close.

Good luck and stay strong!

Hmm well once a smoker always a smoker they say! I gave up for a year and then began again! ITs controllable but i dont think it goes away! Im now 2 weeks into yet another attempt to give up! x x

I hope so.........

I quit 4 years ago, and I still get an urge to smoke every once in a while, however the urge is not very strong now. It gets weaker and the urges become less frequent as time goes by.

The cravings will pass within time. But you may get the urge every once in a while for many years. Just keep busy.
