Diarrhea for about a week! Someone help!?!

Question: I've had diarrhea for about a week now. Well three days of diarrhea and the rest just really soft poop. I'm not throwing up and I don't have a fever, there is no blood in my stool and it is of seemingly normal color. I Do have abdominal pain though and gas, although it's gotten a bit better. It's not as bad as when it first started a week ago... does that mean it's going away??? It is getting really anoying, I have school and such. Can someone please help me?

Because you have no fever or other symptoms, we can rule out Gastroenteritis, also known as the stomach flu, though it has nothing to do with the flu. However excessive diarrhea for a whole week is concerning. Have you been eating enough fiber? If not, you should try to eat more fruits, veggies, starches.

The other problem may be lactose intolerancy. Have you been eating any dairy during this time? Try going dairy free and see if that helps, or go to the doctor to get tested for lactose intolerancy. And don't worry, there are so many products out there for people with lactose intolerancy, including real milk that is lactose free, even ice cream made with real milk that is also lactose free!

Hope you feel better :)

Take Imodium. This helps with the loose stools. It does sound like you are getting over the stomach bug.

Pepto-Bismol can help too -- you can get it in liquid or tablet form, so you could carry it easily to school. Be aware that it will turn hard stools black. Black stools are usually not a good sign, but just a benign side effect when they appear after taking Pepto Bismol.

It sounds like you are getting over it. Take some imodium or other otc medicines for diarrea.... also drink lots of water or poweraid. You need to keep hydrated with diarrea. Poweraid or gatoraid gives you needed electrolytes and will help you feel better.

There are lots of causes for diarrhea. You may want to try to narrow down the source of yours. Yes, Imodium will help, but it doesn't get at the cause.

Your electrolyte balance can be thrown off by diarrhea (or vomiting) and you can become dehydrated. Be sure you're drinking plenty of water, and even something like Gatorade is good to replenish your electrolytes.

Have a look over the link below to see if you can determine the cause; and if it's not cleared up in another day, see your doctor.
