Disc fusion question?!
Question: I am having a fusion done on disks L4-L5 and L-5 and S-1 next Wednesday. Can anyone tell there experiance with with this? How many days were you in the hospital? How long were in in pain after surgery ( pain caused from surgery) ?How long was your recover? I know everyone is different but, it would be nice to get someone else's experiance with this type of surgery.

I had the surgery several yrs ago. I'm not going to lie to you, you hurt after, but they do try to keep you pain free. Today, the pain meds are better than when I had my surgery. As far as the stay, it depends on your doctor or your insurance. BC/BS does not like anyone staying in to long. I think that's terrible. My recovery was about 8-10 wks. It's the spine, you can't take chances trying to do to much to soon. You will damage that area, Trust me, I didn't listen. Now I have 5 more herniated discs, but I will never have back surgery again. That's just me. If you need it, get it over with. Oh, I was in the hospital 5 days, then after 2 wks, my MD made me go the physical therapy. Therapy is so nice. Warm packs on the back, gentle vibration, warm pool, I loved that. I do wish you well. Be blessed and I will pray all goes well for you.
Disc Fusion Surgery? Never heard of Disc Fusion Surgery? Usually the Disc degenerates, as it is made from a tough outer shell and the inside is jelly. As we age we succumb to DDD, degenerative disc disease as the discs dehydrate, shrinks, the jelly dehydrates. Not sure how they could fuse Discs? Please tell us how this surgery goes, perhaps they will write a new medical paper on it. Good Luck
I've had 2 cervical spine fusion surgeries over the past 10 years.
I was in the hospital for 3 days after each one.
The surgery pain lasted about 2 weeks but I had a bone graft so my hip hurt worse than my neck.
I am still in a pain management program because of nerve damage
